  • Elgin's CU bias - again

    From :

And Valley officials are overwhelmingly impressed, including Commissioner Doug Elgin, who called Ameritrade Park a “smaller Busch Stadium.”

“The facility is beyond belief,” Elgin said. “I envision a lot of Valley tournaments coming to this stadium in the future.”
It was only MSU fans saying Hammons Field was "a smaller Busch Stadium" and envisioning a lot of Valley tournaments being played there, but let CU get a nice, new rental and Elgin can't help but wet himself.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Doesn't Busch Stadium actually have people in it?
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

If there's a way Elgin can put 1.9 seconds back on the clock or give CU and extra at-bat to help them, he certainly will.

Maybe the Wichita Eagle should hire someone who could write an interesting column such as this one from the WSU point of view? Oh yeah, we have Bob Lutz. Never mind.

funny you mention Bob Lutz. Tom Shatel is the Omaha version of Lutz. He is a Husker honk, tries to stir up crap and is generally a hack writer. It is interesting that in an article that should be about Creighton and Wichita State, the guy still can't avoid including the Huskers and their superiority. It is kind of like reading Lutz when he gives praise to Wichita State but just has to throw a little Kansas into the mix.

I quit taking the World Herald four years ago, primarily because of their editorial content, and by the time the paper had hit the door, I had already read everything I wanted online, but Shatel was also a big factor.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

With the current state of WSU baseball I can see a lot of MVC tourney's in Omaha in the future as well. Unless we change our leadership or right the ship we really don't deserve it. I think there is an entire thread about that!

I thought this article might be referring to a new commissioner. Has Doug run his course? He's now presiding over a 1 bid basketball and baseball league. Where's he taking us?

I think the article was simply Shatel blabbing. He really has no idea of what is happening in the Valley and his contacts within are saverely limited. I'm sure whomever he spoke with simply gave polite answers in which they thought he wanted to hear.

Shatel is worse than Lutz because while Lutz may like to stir the pot, he at least is informed and knows the people he's dealing with. Shatel is simply a no nothing know-it-all who writes because his stuttering makes it impossible for him to speak.

And as for the Valley needing a new commissioner, that isn't the problem. The Valley needs university presidents, AD's and coaches willing to spend and compete at higher levels. While everyone here hates Creighton, at least Creighton and Wichita State are trying. Too many Valley programs and fans are happy to cycle to the top every four to six years, lose a coach and rebuild on a shoestring budget and prayer. Nothing Elgin can do about that.

Elgin instituted the 150 rule, the schools forced him to abandon it.

Yup! The Valley needs one or two more schools willing to compete at that higher level. Better yet, six schools, so the rest can be voted down and ousted if they don't like it. In the mean time, Elgin just goes along drawing his paycheck and acting like a bobblehead. To bad he doesn't quit or find a better job. Then, maybe, he could stick it to them in the press.
