Game 3: scum vs wsu

Great day and a reminder to sCUm that they can try and coach as hard as they want, they're still sCUm and they still would kill or die to be Wichita State.


Creighton hold on for dear life to the MVC lead by surviving 2 near run rules and a prayer in the 9th yesterday.


CU 10-5 (@ Evansville and finish home against MSU)

WSU 9-6 (ISUB and @ Bradley)

Missouri State 8-6 (dropped a game @ ISUR today) (BU and @ CU)

SIU 8-7 (shutout against BU today) (ISUR and @ ISUB)

ISUR 8-7 (won today, lost 2-3 v MSU) (@ SIU and v Evansville)

Evansville 6-8 (lucky to get 1 of 3 @ ISUB) (CU and @ ISRU)

ISUB 6-9 (almost swept UE) (@ WSU and v SIU)

BU 4-11 (shutout SIU today 4-0) (@ MSU and v WSU)


Anything less than a 6-0 finish in the Valley has to be viewed a total failure. Indiana State is bad and Bradley can't carry ISUB's jockstrap.

As inconsistent as they've been, I could see the Redbirds sweeping the rest of their schedule. I can't see either CU or MSU sweeping the other.

The regular season title (for pride) seems right in front of us.

This weekend has really worked out well for us. If WSU can go 6-0 against the worst two teams in the conference we should win the regular season title. The only team that would have a chance to beat or tie us (if we go 6-0) is Creighton. Since they finish with Missouri St. I don't see them going 6-0.

Harbutz, despite the fan fare, is indeed a career .256 hitter. I still feel like Goro got the raw end of 3rd base battle last year. Thats all I'm going to say about that.

I should add that I don't think Harbutz sucks or anything. I just think he was really hot about the first month of last season and since then I havn't seen anything out of him that screams really good. Also I don't think Goro was better, just felt like he didn't get a fair look when Harbutz was struggling last year. Although I'm not in practice and I don't know what happens behind the scene.

So in short, I just ranted over a bunch of nothing.

The thing that pleased me the most this weekend was our bullpen. TJ, Cale, and Chance all threw really well. That needs to continue for us to have a chance in the conference tournament.

And good lord, what a tear Micah Green is on.

Brian Flynn had to pick this weekend to have an off-day. Still Shock came to play this weekend and while a sweep would have been sweet taking the series 2-1 is not a bad result.

Positives include the production out of the end of the order and the bullpen was pretty solid on Saturday and Sunday also.

Good job by Josh Smith not letting the early errors bet to him. That's what good teams do -- pick up their teammates when a mistake is made.

How is sCUm in first place in this league??? They aren't that good. They will not sweep EU and MoSt. I guess Dufek pitches once a week and for some reason, Blach has won his share. The rest of the pitchers, except maybe Spomer, are nothing special. They have 1 guy tearing it up batting over .400, 1 guy hitting 100 points less, and the rest of the hitters are hitting under .300. Again, nothing special. Oh wait, maybe it is the SIXTY-FIVE sac bunts??? Not sure why Adams ever sees a pitch above his ankles.

The only CU competition where I would be rooting for CU.
