It was like that for some people after we lost in the MVC tournament in basketball this year. I wonder if they're wishing for basketball now...

I do hope the fan that was hit in the face with the line drive foul was not hurt too badly. A sucky night made even worse.

Well it was just about as bad as the game. In fact it was worse.


All I can say positive is that she was awake and alert. She's going to face a long rehab.....and I doubt she'll ever be the same. It was awful.


It wasn't 30 feet from me and I just thanked God it wasn't my daughter.

I haven't been to a game for some time. I think knowing we have to win the tourney (and work) has kept me away. Oh and the sucky play. Makes me sad.

Yeah, I hope they do something nice for her. Unless I miss who that was, they're at pretty much every game. Say a prayer for her....she needs it.

Several other Shockers were in attendance. Gabe and his daughter, 2 or 3 other basketballers, at least 2 volleyballers, including an extraordinarily fit Chelsey Feekin who looked ready to dominate.

I am taking a good bit of my support from baseball and shifting it to volleyball. I'll support the fighters.

I'm giving the remainder of this year's tickets to my favorite charity tomorrow. I can promise you the folks at Big Brothers Big Sisters, Salvation Army, YMCA, etc. would be very appreciative if any of the rest of you feel the same.

The renewal rate for the All American Club has to be a very large concern at this point.

Wanted to give all of you an update on the 16 year old young lady hit last night at Eck Stadium. Her mother, Della, writes:



“Please let everyone know that Susan is home now resting. A CT scan (thankfully) found only a broken nose, and outside of a few broken teeth from her ortho corrected perfect smile that can be dealt with, we feel blessed that with a ball hit that hard & fast, that it wasn't any worse. The blood gusher came from her left nostril being totally split open which now has a line of stitching that looks like that on the outside of a baseball. Our oral surgeon was at the game, so we see him Thursday am for a review of the work done tonight which the ER dr thinks will require additional stitches on the inside of the nose as well as plastic surgery on the outside.



We've had those seats, you know, since that phase of renovation, what 25 yrs? We've protected our babies as best we could, our oldest being born 25 yrs ago, the 4 girls raised in those seats. We've had bumps & bruises from the foul balls, but none like this. After daughter Jane (now 13) was hit a few years ago, I purchased 5 yellow hard hats. You might see us start wearing them again. I think Gene & us saw something tonight that we've feared but had been lucky to never experience that bad in those unprotected box seats.



Lance & I appreciate the diligence & concern to Susan's care by your staff during the game. The hit won't stop us from coming to the games, Susan loves them. There is a fear factor though of sitting in "deathrow" right now.



We have plans already to root the team on in Omaha the end of May.”

Good to know she is doing okay.

In 1994 or so my wife's thigh caught a home run ball on the fly as we sat on the Hill in right field. Ironically it was against KU. She was holding my now 18-year old son, barely missing him. She never saw it coming.

She took it like a, well, a man and shed no tears. She had a helluva bruise though.

Thanks for posting that report. That is relatively good news. It sounds bad enough, but it could have been much worse, even life-threatening.

I have sat in the box seats between the Shocker dugout and bullpen a couple times in late afternoon and evening games and I just hate those seats. When you have to look back into the Sun it can be absolutely blinding. Even if the sun is not a problem you have to be pretty much alert on every pitch.

The only other time I saw someone carted off was when another young girl who was walking right behind the box seats in that area caught a screamer in the head. I don't think she was looking and, fortunately, I don't think her injuries were as serious as those of the young lady who was hit last night.

Not sure if anything can be done to enhance the safety of that area without restricting visibility too much but it might be worth a review.
