I wish we had just one mean SOB who hated to lose on this team.

Gene used to ooze that demeanor and it was contagious. Now he is just grumpy and exasperated, and the players don't seem to connect with the staff much at all.

Have I got this right? SIU is currently in 2nd place in the Valley and has a 16-26 overall record?

Good thing we still have IN St and Bradley to go. After CU, we may need some wins to keep us out of the second division. :banghead:

            Much better.

Overall a pretty solid week. A sweep of the beakers and jays this next week would make a frustrating season much more bearable.

Micah Green had a monster game. He hit a grand slam and then picked up 3 more rbis.

The mob of drunken raggers couldn't believe it was Micahs first home run.

It started sprinkling in the ninth inning and started raining shortly after the second game ended.

Looks like we got the games in just in time. :wsu_posters:

BTW- This was baseball alumni weekend for the Salukis.

Before today's first game they introduced former coach Richard "Itchy" Jones. He took SIU to several regionals and at least 3 CWS appearances in the 70s and 80s. He left SIU in the mid-eighties and SIU baseball became an also run.

They also honored about 30 former players (including former major leaguer Steve Finley) before the game. Unfortunately there were only about 6 SIU fans in attendance at the time.

This must be the annual weekend and they save it every year for the Shockers. It was the same thing a couple of years ago when the Deer Slayer and I attended a series there.
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

It is the series their entire season revolves around. It says something that one of the worst Shocker teams in Gene's tenure took the series.
