Nothing really new. This team simply has become adept at finding ways to lose games and they are versatile in how they do that.
Bottom line is that overall we have middle of the MVC pack talent (at best) with baseball IQ's to match (maybe). The injuries to Bayliffe, Harbutz and Kelley have certainly hurt.
The bullpen is back to its ineffective ways of last year. Right now we have only one pitcher capable of a dominating performance and only one dependable hitter.
We simply are what we are. A middle to low level MVC team.
Do all 8 MVC teams make the Valley Tournament this year?

Sorry, I don't spend 5 hours a day on here racking up posts.

The Black, the Mystery Horse, won the race against the more heavily favored opponents. Despite an injury, he responded with toughness and determination. He responded with the heart of a champion.
After the movie I flipped on the radio while my 6-year-old was brushing his teeth, it was the 7th inning, the score was 11-8. I announced that the Shockers were probably going to lose. Stunned by the news, a six year old said, "They are 0 and 4. Are we still going tomorrow?" I said, "Yes." He was happy about that.
You have to love blind loyalty. I wish I was blind. It would make this slide into obscurity easier to swallow.

I've already resigned the fact that this team will be lucky to finish top 4 in the Valley and get beat in the tourney. The only time I spend on it the games is checking the score the next day just out of casual interest.
We're no longer a baseball school. It may be a long time before we are one again.

.
The fact is there was reasonable expectation that this team would be better than last year team, not actually go the other direction.

If you really want, here were my reasons why I didn't think we'd be good this year:
1) No pitching staff besides a few guys.
2) No hitting outside of a few guys.
You yourself didn't think they'd be good this year either:
WSU had 10 SENIORS. Next year has a making of train wreck.
Still want to argue this?

I HATE YOU GENE!
Evansville has 5x the hitters WSU does. Illinois State did last year. MSU good hitters and pitchers this year. That loser in Omaha gets his players to play good fundamental baseball.
WHY CAN'T YOU DO ANYTHING GENE? RETIRE!
Throw in todays #s and the Shocks have 22 runs on 33 hits in the series. We have only been out hit by an opponent once in our last 9 games and we had 10 hits in the game we were out hit.
If you take a look at the # of hits we have given up since our losing ways started (2nd Penn State game), we have given up 8 or more hits 15 times in those 20 games. Also in those 20 games we are giving up an average of 6.1 runs on 9.65 hits. You just aren't going to win much when you give up those kind of #s. During those same 20 games WSU has scored 6.2 runs on 9.65 hits per game.
Florida is one of the top teams in the country (#1 in RPI) and they are only scoring 6.1 runs per game on the season. The Shocks are averaging 6.8 runs per game for the year. I guess my point is that we are scoring enough runs, its pitching and defense that are killing us...
