It was some time between the super regional of 08 and the spring of 09. Gene said that the team was going to sacrifice a little defence for more hitting. This after 2 year of making the super regional and the year after being 1 win away from the world series. If this is what he meant it has failed. I for one would like to see a better fielding team with good pitching which I think we have and hit like we did in 07 and 08 thank you. When we lose games 5-2 and give up 3 unearned runs or lose 8-6 and give up 4 unearned runs and on and on. Its just not Shocker Baseball Not the Shocker baseball I've watched for a long time. I'm still a fan and I will be there Friday but...

First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team. -
It seems like we sacraficed defense and hitting. -
The 07 and 08 teams were not inhibited by bad hitters.
7 full time hitters batting .314 or higher on the 08 team, including Gillespie at friging .419 and Dirks at .388, both with 11 home runs.
8 full time hitters at .288 or higher on the 07 team.
Not great hitting but good enough when you play defense and have pitchers.Comment
