    There was a game today?

Oh, looks like another Grimes error contributes to unearned runs that effectively are the difference in the game.

I dunno which is worse: Grime's ability to field a ball or the coaches' decision to not care and remain with the status quo.

Haven't attended a game this year and at this rate, I won't be attending one.

I'm about done with this sh*t.

To be fair to Grimes, McGreevy threw a wild pitch on the previous play that allowed runners to get to 2nd and 3rd. Had Coughenour thrown to the correct base on the previous play and TJ not wild pitched them over, Grimes error wouldn't have led to a run.

Not sticking up for him because he should have made the play. It was hit right at him. But he wasn't the only one that inning that screwed up. Coughenour's mistake led to more problems than Tyler's.

Grimes is no doubt struggling and the ball he made the error on was about as routine as they come.

However, dwelling on Tyler Grimes obscures the fact that we have a lot more problems than just Tyler Grimes.

The lead off single came on a 1-2 pitch that caught way to much of the plate. Coughenour then botched a routine sac bunt play. McGreevey then wild pitched the runners to 2nd and 3rd taking the double play off the table. Grimes then made his error allowing a run to score and leaving runners on first and second. A sac bunt and ground out scored the 2nd run of the inning. Then McGreevey grooves a fastball on another 1-2 count for the game winning home run (in the 3rd inning no less).

The Shocks score two runs with their first 3 hitters and picked up a 4th hit after 1 out. Coughenour hit a rocket to 3rd that King made a very nice play on for the 2nd out. After that the Shocks seemed to lose interest in competing at the plate. Over the last eight innings the Shocks had 1 hit, Don Lambert's one out double in the 7th.

Yeah, Grimes is A problem this year, but he is not THE problem.

re: Gene's comments from the Kansas.com article:

"I'm just tired," he said. "I'm tired of watching what we do. It's just pathetic. It just keeps mounting and getting worse and worse. We've got guys that for whatever reason are not responding to anything that we do as coaches. It's frustrating."

"I'm at my wit's end," Stephenson said. "I cannot . . . these people will not respond under any circumstances. And we're in a position where we have our backs against the wall and there is no place to turn. We only have each other to go to."

Stephenson thinks the Shockers need to become more mentally tough. "We don't have any competitors," Stephenson said. "We don't have any tough guys. We don't have any guys that can compete with the game on the line."

"I think we're better than this," Stephenson said, "but you know what? If we don't play better than what we are playing we're not better than what we're doing."

I see nothing here that would indicate an accurate assessment or acknowledgement of the problems in this program. Just more business as usual, with the usual 3-step canned response....

          1. throw the players under the bus
          2. act "mystified" about why they can't/won't do better.
          3. try to say something positive, but fail miserably

Come on - can't we get anything better than that for the million bucks a year we spend on coaches?

Simply going thru the motions and hoping things improve, without (apparently) taking any effective action just isn't getting it anymore.

You can only water-down the schedule so much in order to get those precious Augie-chasing wins. (by-the-way, Texas is currently ranked #8, and has a 25-8 record so far this year). Putting up a barely-over .500 record isn't going to gain much on Augie unless you continue to stick around for several years after he quits. Putting the baseball program on "auto-pilot" (as has been going on for several years now), eventually pays off like it is right now.

As we are witnessing, we still have to play games against programs that are actually on the upswing, vs. the tail-spin that WSU Baseball has become. So let's not pretend to be surprised or mystified at sub-standard results. Even the most loyal of the Shocker fan base is smarter than that - and, as evidenced by declining attendance, they're starting to "vote with their feet."

Losing 6 straight to K-State is the final sign that Armaggeddon has been unleashed on Earth.

Instead of Gene recommending Brad Hill for the K-State job, he should have stepped aside so Hill could take over the WSU job.

And Mike Kennedy wondered why there were so few Shocker fans at the Nebraska game.

Typical, Crusty throwing the players under the bus.

10 needs to wear this one, not deflect it off on the players. Maybe your message doesn't work in 2011 like it did in '81 or '91. Maybe you can no longer identify and/or recruit players that fit your system.

The coaches should be embarrased. The AD should be embarrased. Someone needs to grab this bull by the balls and fix it.

I read the Kansas.com article too...My thought after going through it was simply "Hey, dumbass, there's no one to blame for the players but yourself. You recruited them."

I have it on good authority that the entire Shocker baseball team, including coaches, will be in attendance. Several players are scheduled to speak on achieving their personal excellence.

Please tell me that instead of attending this event, which will probably have little to no impact on anything, that instead this team will either be in the cages trying to figure out their hitting problems or involved in a team meeting of their own trying to figure out what they can do to salvage the season. Showing up to protest some random fool's ideas will only support his claim. I think the team would benefit from practice instead.

Considering we have a game against Evansville at 2pm, I highly doubt the players will be at this very long.

Definitely nees some fixing but grabbing a bull by the balls usually doesn't end well.
