    Shox suck again lose 5-4

It's crazy watching this program self destruct. This isn't a big 6 program. You can't afford to suck for 3 years in a row. I can't imagine WSU being good next year either, losing Lowell and Kelley. They won't have any better of a hitting lineup either.

Last years pitching recruits have yet to prove anything. This years hasn't done anything to prove itself either.

If you are a recruit in the area OU, OSU, KSU, KU, Nebraska, Missouri all look like equal or better choices.

I really think the sun is beginning to set on this program.

edit: I will say Cale Elam is a freshman pitcher who has done well. Also Minnis hasn't had enough time to prove anything yet.

Our only hope is some of the young guys get on a summer team with a real hitting coach. Teach them things like how to shorten up their swing with two strikes, hit the top half of the ball, and the art of the push bunt. If any of those things are taught now, I sure can't tell it.

When was the last time no baseball game thread was created? I monitored the baseball forum to see when a NU/WSU thread would finally be created. You sir are the lucky winner - 15 minutes after the game was over. This speaks volumes to how despondent and frustrated the fan base is over this team. Obviously, there might be SNers out at the game tonight but still. Rosewood anybody?

We are 14 and 14 over our last 28 games and our win/loss record against teams with a .500 or better record is 10 and 12. At this point of the season, it is clear we are just an average baseball team. Thanks to 9 wins over teams with a combined record of 18 and 90, this team would be in the 'suck' category.

This season is over, and that's okay. But you hit the nail on the head, the future concerns me.

        couple bright spots

Coy 2 for 4 with a HR - he really has to get untracked if the shox are to turn this season around.

Hall and Grimes each went 2 for 4

Flynn threw 4.1 solid innings, striking out 6 and only walking 2. Gives up 1 unearned run because Grimes.

Grimes commits another error when he chooses to throw the ball to third to get the lead runner instead of getting the 2nd out of the inning. He hits the runner with the throw and the runner scores on sac fly that would have been the third out. Otherwise this game probably would have went extra innings.

We were on the way home from softball games at TRYC and opted to skip stopping by the Shox game. A few seasons ago, we would have stopped to watch the Shox pull out the W despite being down 5-3.

There's other stuff going on this weekend and I doubt I'll even make an effort to go the the Shox games.

It is time to support the program by staying away. This isn't on the players, it is on the staff. Staying away in droves sends a huge message: "Were mad as hell, and we're not going to take it anymore." For WSU baseball to survive, the coaching staff must be replaced - it's the only way to salvage the program.

I've already noticed alot of regular people staying away.I'm not one of them yet.I would usually drive to Manhattan to the game tomorrow but I think I'll save the miles and gas.I hope for the best because i love Shocker baseball but with this team I'm being pushed to find other entertainment options.

It truly is sad to see what this program has become. The fans deserve better honestly. Maybe Gene and the boys have become complacent and a little too comfortable. I say this with all due respect and admiration for what they have accomplished and their past successes. But, the key word there is past successes. WSU is a proud program with great tradition and something needs to be done to re-establish things. I will continue to support the players and the program, but I hope the status of the program is given some serious thought after the season by the administration. Some tough decisions may need to be made, and I am glad I am not the one who will have to make those decisions.

As I was driving to the game, I heard Mike lament about what he considered to be a small crowd.

You could hear the Nebraska fans, and while they didn't number the same as WSU fans, how could it be that it was that close?

Somebody did a pole about expectations, and I might continue to work on this chart about who does what, and where our players come from, but right now I think there is a bigger point to be made.

There is complacency surrounding this program right now.

Last night was a borderline perfect night for baseball. Can you even IMAGINE not having 5-6k for a Big12 team???

Nowhere near that amount, and if not for the N fans, it would have been even worse. There are a whole bunch of people, myself included, that have simply resigned to the fact that WSU baseball is no longer relevant.

Last night should be a huge wakeup call for someone. You can blame the kids all you want, but the facts (as I see them) are this:

                          1. While we MAY be getting some talent into the program, its nothing like it used to be.
                          2. We coach NO PLAYER up. Name someone that has markedly improved as their career went on in the last 3 years. Anyone. COB for sure, but good God, his dad is a major leaguer. I kind of expected a little bit from him in 4 seasons.
                          3. The crowd last night is embarrassing. I don't even know what to say here. I've had 8 season tickets for close to 20 seasons, and while I am nowhere near the elite of the boosters, at least for basketball and volleyball my support is appreciated and wanted. I get none of that for baseball. That's going to change immediately, because my support is going elsewhere.
                          4. Grime's throw to 3rd wasn't just poor judgment. I can't imagine a Shocker player even 10 years ago (much less 20) making a boneheaded play like that. What the hell was he thinking? I realize Tyler made the throw, but that is coaching and discipline, period.
                          5. Look at what N did. Single, bunt, single, run. They did that at least twice. What do we do? Single, thrown out hit and run. Nothing but being hard headed and not adjusting to what the game has become. We're not running up stats against Friends anymore. We were out-coached, out-prepared and out-gutted by a BAD Big12 team in our own yard.

                          110% UNACCEPTABLE.

And there isn't ONE of us, not ONE, that believes for even 1 SECOND that it's just a slump and its going to turn around anytime soon.

This team might, MIGHT, finish 4th in the MVC.

I really, really, REALLY hate to say this aloud, because I jokingly said it 7 (?) years ago, but the death nail for this great, great program came when Jim Schaus allowed Gene to return. If he'd stayed at Oklahoma, we could still be great.

This program deserves better than to be decent, AT BEST, in the Valley.

It's time to be relevant again.

I know it's going to be hard, but decisions like these are tough ones to make. Who here now thinks it's going to be easier to get a National Championship in basketball than it would be in baseball?

I love Gene, and what he has done can never be undone or forgotten and we should erect statues in his name but today

It's time for a change, and it MUST happen Eric Sexton.

Our recruiting philosophy is to find the best athlete and make them into baseball players, diamond IQ notwithstanding. I want a guy who is already a baseball player, since our staff doesn't seem to be able to make them better, like Doc said.
