The Shocker Scrimmage Squad Captains drafted their teams todayd. Not sure if this tells us much other than perhaps who the respective team captains value the most. Nathan Briscoe was drafted 6th by the black team but is not on the Shocker roster. Sam Goodwin, Trent Allen and Bryce McDermott are players listed on the roster who were not drafted. I don't know if that means they are injured or they are no longer on the roster.

Kind of surprised that Jacob Katzfey lasted till the 9th round and Noah Croft wasn't drafted until the 13th round. But between Gunnar Troutwine and Ross Cadena the Balck team already had two catchers after 5 rounds so the Yellow team perhaps didn't feel the need to draft a catcher any earlier than that. Besides I am not sure how good Gunnar Troutwind is at evaluating catching talent.

The other thing that caught my attention is their is not much LHP on this staff. Only 3 guys and only Cody Tyler has much experience. As noted above, Trent Allen who is a LHP, wasn't drafted so I am not sure what his status is.

Nathan Briscoe's twitter account indiciates he is the teams' equipent manager. Maybe that is why the Black team had two 15th round picks. Perhaps a pretty astute pick by the Black team. Having the equipment manager on you side could perhaps give you a big edge. Icy Hot on the jock straps comes to mind.

Or it could just bring into question whether or not these player pools were pre-determined by the coaching staff.

Sully reports on what to look for in the Fall Scrimmages.

Some interesting comments on a number of players. Also interesting that all his caoch quotes were from either Coach Steele or Coach Esposito.

So I am not sure if game 1 of the Shocker fall scrimmages is good news or bad news. The game was scoreless after 9 innings so they went to a tiebreaker with each team starting their at bat in the 10th inning with a runner on 2nd. The Black team loaded the bases but failed to score against Clayton McGinnis and Preston Minor leaving the bases loaded. In the bottom of the 10th Jacob Katzfey was placed on 2nd, went to 3rd on an error by Chandler Sanburn and after an intentional walk scored the games only run on a sac fly by Dayton Dugas.

As is usually the case in these games you are left to wonder if this was a matter of really good pitching or really lousy hitting.

For the Black squad Codi Heuer gave up 6 hits and 4 walks in 5.2 innings but struck out 7 and did not allow any runs. Keylan Kilgore allowed 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 2 in his 2.1 innings of work and Chandler Sanburn did not allow a hit and only gave up 1 intentional walk but his error was a big factor in the allowing the only run of the game.

For the Yellow squad Cody Tyler only allowed 3 hits and did not walk anyone while striking out 6 in 7 innings of work where he only faced 2 hitters over the minimum. Clayton McGinnes pitched 2.1 innings of no hit, 1 walk ball and Preston Minor got the final two outs of the game sandwiched around a walk to Travis Young.

All 10 hits were singles, 3 of which were of the infield variety. Jordan Boyer was 3-4 and no one else had more than 1 hit.

The Black team committed 2 errors and the yellow team made 1 error.

I suppose it's either way to go pitchers are come on hitters. I hope it is the former.
WICHITA, Kan. – The Yellow squad won game one of the Fall World Series 1-0 in 10 innings. Dayton Dugas' sacrifice fly scored Jacob Katzfey for the walkoff win.

The Black Squad evens the 3-game scrimmage series at 1 game each. Brief write-up on GoShockers.com but no box score. Sounds like the key play of the game was Fr. C/!B Hunter Gibson's 2 run home run in the bottom of the 4th off of So. RHP Connor Lungwitz in the bottom of the 4th to put the Black team up 4-1.

Robby Evans pitched 5 innings for the Black squad and did not allow any earned runs.

The Black squad won an easy 11-0 game today to come back and win the series after being shut down in Game 1. The middle of the Black lineup, Alec Bohm, Mason O'Brien, Josh DeBacker and Ross Cadena combined for to go 10-20 with 7 RBI's. O'Brien and Cadena were both 3-5 and Cadena lead the way with 4 RBI.

The Black team scored 6 of their runs in the 8th and 9th innings off of Tommy Barnhouse and Adam Keller.

Preston Snavley (6.1 innings), Trent Allen (0.2 innings) and Garrett Kocis (2 innings) combined for a 6-hit, no walks, 7 strike out shut-out performance. The Yellow squad pitchers only allowed 1 walk and they committed 2 errors as well although all 11 runs scored by the Black squad were earned. That would seem to indicate the Black squad was pretty effective hitting with runners in scoring position. 5 of the 14 Black squad's hits were for extra bases, 2 doubles and 3 triples.

One thing that still stands clear is that Dugas still can’t hit at all. It seems like they were only throwing fastballs to him this weekend, and he couldn’t keep up. 0-9 with 4Ks this weekend.
