  • Shockers vs Ducks Game 4

Chris O'Brien needs a day off. A double header on Friday and 17 innings yesterday is to much. I know he is the leading hitter and clean up guy but...
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

    Backup Catcher

So, do you think Bob Arens is ready to fill in at catcher? Ryan Hege is now playing right field. I know the WSU coaching staff is pretty high on Arens. Your idea is a good one, so it will be interesting to see how it works out at the catcher position today.

I might let him have a day off behind the plate but I would think they can't afford his bat out of the lineup so they would dh him.

They really need Coy to get going.

Only 8 men in the field. Move Grimes to right field and let Walker Ranger play up the middle.

We have a great opportunity to seal the deal today. Hopefully, CL will be on and we won't have to dig too deep into our relief pitching.

              Some interesting facts;

32 percent of our team outs comes by strikeout.
16 percent of the Ducks outs come by strikeout.
The Shox hitters nearly average 1 k per inning.
The Shox pitchers have allowed 31 BB's in 35 innings.
The Ducks pitchers have allowed 20 BB's in 35 innings.
The Shox are batting .240 over the past 3 games.
The Ducks are batting .198 over the past 3 games.

Here's the deal, both teams have shown incompetence offensively in this series. It is obvious that the Ducks struggle in terms of hitting far worse than we do. Their overall team average coming into the series was .237 I believe, and our pitchers have done a great job of making that worse.

However, we have kept the Ducks in each and every game by allowing 31 walks. I don't know if the ump has a small zone, or if the Shox pitchers just aren't feeling it this weekend, but we just need to come after these guys and quit nibbling.

The Ducks do have good pitching, but striking out once per inning is really glaring. I would like to see a complete reversal of trends today and finish this series out with a win. The pitching has barely kept this team alive while the hitting has not been timely for the most part. I would like to see CL go out there and pitch a gem, and the offense start hitting the Ducks around to keep the pressure off the Charlie.

My fear is, OU's pitching is more depleted than ours, but how many times have we've seen guys with 4 + ERAs come in and shut down the Shox. Once, I would like to see the hitters just punish the deep end of the opponent's pitching staff.

We have a great set-up and opportunity to take this series today - weather permitting please, let's not be basketball's version of missed opportunities.[/b]

Or Spring to the Bench...whichever. O'brien is the leading hitter on the team in BA, HR, RBI, OBP and Slugging. I suppose you could also have O'Brien play 3rd- but then you lose Coughenour.

Pitching for today. Charlie needs to get into the 7th. Grant threw 28 pitches on Friday so he should be available. Justin threw 4 pitches yesterday he should be a go. Drew is fresh and BK said Cale should be good for 1 inning? Hoping that's enough. I think Bob Arens is a good player! There were freshmen step up yesterday there should be freshman step up today. Chris O'Brien could pinch hit late if need be and come in to catch late if needed he must be worn out after 2 day's like that.

Huge opportunity to make a statement today. Taking 3 of 4 at Oregon is something that would really grab the voters' attention. I just hope we can ride the mo and finish this thing.

After today, I will be a big bandwagon Ducks fan for the rest of the season. Nothing would be better for WSU than for Oregon to bounce back from a Shocker drubbing and win the Pac-10, with Arizona cruising in at 2nd.

Did the Ducks really try a squeeze with the bases loaded and 2 outs there?
