I'm not trying to be a debbie downer but this is a mid week match up with Arizona. My money says WSU gets taken behind the wood shed twice. Who knows though. Here is hoping for the best.
Team batting average playing Niagra, ND, and New Orleans (combined record 4 and 36) is .365
Team batting average playing ORU, UTA, Tulane and DBU (combined record 36 and 22) is .232
If Flynn continues to have problems finding the zone, then AZ may take us behind the wood shed. The second game - unlikely.
Regardless, our pitching is going to have to keep us in the game because our offense and defense has been absent against teams with .500 or better records.
Wish I could see these games. Went to two of the games here in Tucson last year. My wife and I wore some UA colors and some WSU colors. We got puzzled looks from both the UA fans and the WSU. Got to talk to several of the WSU fans. Usually we sit by the first base dugout, but we sat by the third base dugout with the WSU fans for those two games.
Arizona has fattened themselves up a little with games vs. NDak State (3-0), Utah Valley State (3-0), and Northern Colorado (3-0). They have also played LBSU (2-1), UNLV (1-1), and Rice (1-1)
I was looking for a Shox advantage, there isn't any.
On offense. Surprisingly, the HR totals are close, but AZ has one guy with 4. They hit and they run and they score.
The Shox might show statistically a little better pitching, but the sample is pretty small and the advantage is VERY slight. Their Top 3 starters compare just about heads-up against Kelley, Lowell and Smith. Similar ERA, K, OppBA.
The Shox are going to have to make it happen at the plate and get back to playing defense like they did at the beginning of the season. Absolutely no freebies, or Arizona will kick their tails.

That would be great, I've decided to expect the least from shocker athletics. That way it doesn't put me in a pissy mood afterwards.
Guess I'm not alone in that psychological MO. It's sort of a mental self-preservation thing.
Sure, it wears you out after a while. I'm still a fan and root for them, etc. Just that I have lowered my expectations to the bottom. That way anything positive is a nice surprise and I can even enjoy them when they are losing.

If the Shox can improve their showing in Tuscon from last year, when they were swept and outscored a combined 32 to 5, then can there be victory in losing, just as long as it is not by a combined 27 runs?
It appears pitching is a wash, but they have a huge edge in hitting. Here's to miracles!
