  • Wonder if Shaka Smart regrets leaving VCU yet

10-17 so far this season at Texas.. Probably won't get canned after year 2, but if this happens again in year 3 it won't be good. The problem with losing at Texas is they are so sick of losing in their major sports the margin for error is pretty small.

Shaka Smart is making Texas wish Rick Barnes was still coaching the Horns; IMO next year is a make or break season for Shaka. Another losing season and Shaka may be gone mid-season.

We should have a great opening in the MVC fairly soon. Won't be long till we see Shaka as he tries to rebuild his cache

        Maybe Shaka looks at NCState?

Actually, yeah. He kinda should. Just start over before you get fired.

He makes good money and he will probably hold out for a buy out and take another job and come out far ahead of where he would have been money wise than if he would have stayed at vcu

NC State would make sense, but it's a year early. Smart is an East Coast guy. At VCU he could recruit East Coast players to an East Coast school.

That's different than recruiting East Coast players to Texas, both for distance from home and from the difference in importance of basketball and football on the coast and in Texas. In Texas the fans are going to be more familiar with and have more respect for the 3rd string quarterback than for the starting point guard.

It didn't help he made a political statement alienating over half of his fan base

He's going to be fine. I always thought it was kind of a weird fit there but Texas will be patient I believe. He's not on the hot seat yet.

Do you follow Texas Basketball? Shaka has taken Texas basketball to new lows; as I posted earlier next year is make or break for Shaka.

Barnes won 69% of games he coached at Texas (402-180); while Shaka's record is 30-30 (10-17 this season)

Can you imagine the culture shock of an east coast kid winding up in Austin Texass.

Austin is a great place to live; diversity out the wazoo and nice entertainment. And the University is strong academically.

It's probably less than a Jersey boy like MM winding up in Wichita, Kansas.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.
