Baylor and the Death Penalty

USA Today published an article calling for the death of the Baylor athletic program.

If the death penalty isn't appropriate now, it never will be.

If the Patrick Dennehy thing wasnt bad enough (which I give full credit for Scott Drew in turning that thing around) But with whatever the hell is going on over there now is just.. ugh

I can't figure out the NCAA, they failed to give the death penalty to Penn State after the Sandusky scandal. Sure, they withheld scholarships and banned them from postseason for 4 years, but then changed their mind a few years later and gave scholarships and Paterno's wins back. If Penn State escaped the Death Penalty, Baylor probably will too. Scratch that, Baylor is a small school with no tradition, so the NCAA will probably give them the Death Penalty.

I suppose if any school ever gets the death penalty now they could probably just sue the NCAA and win based on the track record of similar schools who didn't get punished for similar issues. The NCAA isn't going to be able to give anyone the death penalty. Either that or they are going to have to say with a straight face that this school deserves it while Penn St, UNC and Louisville don't...

Baylor needs to clean house with their entire program while keeping the best interest of the current players there a top priority.

I know he's just interim, but no way should any assistant under Briles still be at the University come this fall. Entire coaching staff needs to be gone.

What stinks here is all the athletes that did the right thing and were upstanding people are going to get screwed. The NCAA will screw it up, once again and nothing will really happen. I mean look at the UNC situation. Nothing has happened for multi years now.

Sadly, things like this have gone on for years throughout the NCAA.

If they REALLY wanted change, they'd send a team of 100 to Waco TODAY, personally escort every football player through the process of finding another school, see to it they are moved and enrolled wherever they want/can be or if they prefer to stay at Baylor, make Baylor pay for their entire education, then send the bill to Baylor.

Then give Baylor a 50 year death penalty and then fine every Power 5 program $100 million to set up a fund to make victims whole now, and in the future, with a promise of similar findings at ANY SCHOOL, with an emphasis on ALABAMA, OHIO STATE, OKLAHOMA and every other blue blood, will be met with every bit as swift and complete a penalty.

And finally double the cash penalty each time it happens, across the board. I bet the schools would react pretty quickly.

I really like the idea of uninhibited transfer with the transgressing school continuing to pay for their next year of education even at the new school. Make the collateral damage fall entirely on the organization, not the innocent players getting blindsided.

The power 5 would just start their own brand of athletic competition sans ncaa sooner than they now plan.

Uh. I mean what about the rapists? The alleged ones and the convicted ones. Seems to me like they didn't do the right thing.

This is a real difficult one for the NCAA in my opinion. I absolutely hate Baylor. I cannot even put into words how much I despise them. But personal feelings aside, I'm not crazy about the NCAA getting involved with the Title IX stuff. Now it would not at all be surprising if Baylor was cheating and then the NCAA should get involved.

That is completely absurd. Instead of rolling the red carpet out for the football team, how about holding some of them accountable for the allegations that put them in this spot to begin with?

And what the hell does being a P5 have anything to do with this? Why should Iowa State feel the burden of a financial penalty but not UNLV?

I think I did hold them accountable, to the tune of $100 million.

It has to do with money. UNLV is a tick on the african lion that is college football. Missouri State is a fly on the UNLV tick. This is about money and power. You want to affect some change, hit them where it hurts.

If it makes you feel any better, we can fine the UNLV's $1 million and the Missouri States $1000.
