  • Cliff Alexander on KU

    http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/campus-corner/article22836969.html

“I got dealt a bad deck of cards when I was at Kansas,” Alexander said. “It just didn’t go as planned, as I planned it.”

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kickass ... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

I thought this was rather humorous. He was expected to be a top 5 pick and turned to...well, turned into Cliff Alexander instead.

I'm sure Alexander is far from the first person to have had a disappointing experience with The Flagship -- for example, WSU has another who will become eligible December 12 -- but I'm not entirely convinced big Cliff was just an innocent bystander, either.

By the way, kudos to 11 for actually putting this in the right forum. You da man.

The Cliff Alexander saga is baffling to me.. I know quite a few KU die hards and none of them said a word about Cliff Alexander going into last season. Then when he gets suspended they all throw up the white flag at the same time.
I don't think Alexander was ever a saving grace in their minds. More like a distant hope that could of salvaged their season perhaps.

That may be it, bleed -- he was a convenient excuse as to why things weren't as glorious as they're divinely ordained to be for The Flagship.

The KU fans I knew thought he would fill Embiid's shoes just fine- he was supposed to be the enforcer down low to compliment Perry's softer style.

Once it was clear he couldn't stay away from the dollar menu and had no motor, the smarter ones (read: not many) saw the writing on the wall and knew their team had a ceiling that just came down a few stories.

They are putting an awful lot of eggs in the Diallo basket next year. We'll see how it works out this time.

I'm trying to figure out who's going to sit. At the PF/C positions, the've got 6 guys for 2 spots. I know several of these guys aren't going to be pushing for starter minutes, but even if you leave Mickelson and Traylor out, you've still got Perry Ellis, Landon Lucas, Cheick Diallo, and Carlton Bragg fighting for 2 spots. I even see Lucas coming off the bench, but I can't imagine them not starting Perry, leaving one of the McDonalds AA guys coming off the bench? Makes me wonder what these guys were told to entice them to sign. Maybe one or both of them don't see themselves as one and done guys. Otherwise, it looks like one will be an unhappy camper.

Yea, it seems like they are hoping Bragg can be a multi-year guy whereas most speculation on Diallo is that he's (hoping to be) one and done. It might get awkward though since Bragg is actually the more polished player and Diallo is a project on offense (although from all appearances he will be very strong defensively).

I would not be excited about the perimeter next year if I were a Kansas fan. It gets real soft real fast after Mason. Greene needs an Oubre/slasher type so he can get off his slow-as-molasses three point looks, and instead he'll be coupled with the Ukrainian guy who people say can shoot but isn't exactly a burner. Selden gonna Selden...a.k.a. continue regressing.

One of the KU die hards I work with went off about the situation a little today.. Basically, if KU runs across a outside shooting team like Wsu, they are toast. Plenty of inside presence though. But that "might" get them a big 12 championship. In other words, who cares?
