Memphis not honoring the request for transfer.
Pretty late to announce a transfer. I can see why Memphis would be difficult, although, I tend to side with the player in all of these situations because at the end of the day it needs to be a freedom of choice thing.

"Mark Nichols told CBSSports.com that the school formally denied the release Tuesday.
"And they did not give us a reason," Mark Nichols said. "So now we're going to have to appeal that decision and maybe hire a lawyer." "

I can give you a reason. Memphis is mad and they want to make it difficult to make sure you really want to leave. It's as simple as that. I wouldn't expect them to put that in writing. When the dad says "they didn't give us a reason" I'm like, well what reason were you expecting :)

My thought is a little different on this. Why would you want the kid to stay if he doesn't want to be there? It seems to me that that could lead to all kinds of discontent, which would most likely lead to a wasted scholarship, not to mention the cancer he could become in the locker room.

KU released Frankamp after he asked for transfer on October 31.

It's obviously just sour grapes from Memphis and it's apparent.

Nichols has yet to speak directly with Pastner.

Obviously we don't know all the details in this situation (or Frankamp's) but I get a school being upset that a kid leaves this late. How would people feel if a school was pulling a scholarship from someone right about now?

The bottom line here though, is that Memphis is a hot mess right now.

Sometimes things change, as we saw to our disadvantage when Anthony Tolliver wanted to leave Creighton mid-career. That silver-tongued devil Altman persuaded him to reconsider, which he did, and he went on to become probably Creighton's best recent big man (I'd pick him over Echenique, at least on his play against WSU) and a Shocker nemesis.

It sounds as though the Nichols situation at Memphis is more angry than that, and it may be unsalvageable. And who knows what's really going on -- what if they're asking Nichols to do something untoward? But in the absence of any such knowledge, I think if I were Pastner, I'd probably be saying to the Nichols entourage, Look: it's just too late for a move like this. So stay one more year, playourazzoff for us and yourself, and then we'll send you on your way with our blessing and no questions asked if that's what you want.

He will get a conditional release, per the Memphis AD.

                    Sign him. :)

He can shirt while Grady holds it down and then he can step right into the lineup the next year. If we don't get Humphries, let's get this guy. There is a huge list of decent schools who he isn't going to be allowed to consider.

Unless he's a toolbag and this whole thing is a result of him being an idiot...

                    Here's where he CAN'T go:
"...anyone in the American Athletic Conference, any Memphis non-conference opponent in 2015-16 and Tennessee, Iowa, Providence and Virginia. Iowa, Providence and Virginia all play in a tournament with Memphis in the 2016-17 season, while Tennessee is … Tennessee. Memphis’ non-conference schedule for 2015-16 includes Oklahoma, South Carolina, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss and Ohio State."

Odds are he may have to walk-on somewhere this year, unless he finds a program with a scholly to give or a coach willing to dump a player to get him. So why not walk on at WSU? :)

It would make a decent plan B for me to use my "blow the roof off .GIF" that I found

Fortunately for us, we can always dump Wessel :)

They should have rolled it out like this:

That's right! We don't need him. This program is way past where we can afford to put a 6'4" PF on the court. Pull his scholly and let's go sign a real player.
