  • Oregon v Utah

Did anyone see that play where the Utah kid dropped the ball before he scored in an effort to start his self aggrandizing endzone celebration?

It was returned by Oregon 100 yards for TD the other way. Should have been 14-0 Utah and instead was tied at 7. Now Oregon is routing them.

Anyway, what's the rule if the ball is free and you go out of bounds, can you come back in bounds and be the first one to touch the ball? I am wondering if that should have been a touchback instead of a touchdown.

@WuDrWu: I believe that if a player has possession of the ball and loses posession and then the player goes out of bounds and returns into the field of play, said player cannot be the first player to touch the ball. It must be touched by another player still within the field of play before the player returning into the field of play from out of bounds touches the ball. I will defer to others as this is my recollection from many seasons ago.
