  • Zach Lofton dismissed from Minnesota basketball program

After averaging 11.3 points per game as a sophomore at Illinois State last season, 6-foot-4 guard Zach Lofton transferred to Minnesota with hopes of supplying head coach Richard Pitino with some additional depth on the perimeter when he became eligible in 2015-16. Unfortunately for Lofton that won’t be happening, as it was reported by Amelia Rayno of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the guard has been dismissed from the program.

The Gophers had their first open scrimmage on Sunday, during which the transfer -- who would have redshirted this season, per NCAA transfer rules -- was seen arguing with teammates and apparently snapped at a couple of times for his poor body language.

Yeah, what a dumb move by Muller to run this guy off.

Did anyone say that? You could make arguments about taking him on in the first place. Or, you know, Hawkins.

There were many questioning him running people off.

Like it or not, Illinois State is a key to the MVC stepping up to a higher level. Along with Bradley and UNI.

Was Lofton the guy that was heaving up all of those terrible 3-pt shots in the 2nd half of the game against WSU in Normal?

Lofton wasn't ever one of the questionable run-offs. In fact, he was brought in to replace other players that we're let go.

Then ran off due to his lack of understanding of the word "TEAM"

Not an ISUr fan at all, but definitely see a lot in Dan Muller that reminds me of Gregg Marshall.

That is good for the Valley, and that makes it good for WSU, we hope.

Kinda seems like a trying too hard to defend a dickhead moment, honestly.

Don't know about his kicking ability, but otherwise there seem to be some similarities. Sometimes when a guy is as full of himself as Lofton appears to be and decides to go "big time," reality bites him on the butt.

Maybe he can catch on with an NAIA school that's willing to put up with him, and even get a degree that will be of some value when the patience of the entire basketball world with him wears thin. Plus, there's always overseas -- his reputation may not have gone worldwide yet..

I say we take him and let Marshall rehabilitate him, further proving that Marshall owns pretty much everyone.
