  • Facility Upgrade

Looks like KSU is upgrading their football stadium---again.

Would love to see WSU upgrade or build some new facilities and take advantage of the basketball success.

    Wish list?
Women's only basketball and VB court
    New Baseball Scoreboard
    Expansion of Koch

    What else???

I think most would like to see more capacity at Koch. If a donor steps up for a smaller venue for volleyball, it could be a possibility. I font see anything happening for a long time.

THE SHUTTLES RUNNING FOR EVERY GAME!!

Built in seat massagers for section 114.

A sweet projection system for the floor like the Cavaliers have (somebody else posted a cool video of it).

Some beauticians on-call to give a quick pedicure.

Parking garage spaces for section 114.

A sky-tram to the metroplex parking lot.

New books for the library. Wait. Naaaah.

A MUCH bigger and better thought out gift shop!!

A large commons eating area with 3rd party restaurants where you can eat before and even during the game.

A sweet game room for the youngin's. Thinking like some of the cool stuff they have up at the Sprint Center, but not nearly on that scale.

I'm game for a new baseball scoreboard. The video board is essentially useless as it is too small.

Koch doesn't need expanded. There is value in having a hot market for tickets. If there is too much supply, demand won't be nearly as much. While I am confident that the team will continue blazing trails and be a perennial Top 25 team (or higher), if the program ever sinks back to even 20 wins a season, there will be no way that the added seats would be filled on a consistent basis. The only thing worse than having an arena too small is having it too big.

Not sure about the volleyball/women's basketball facility either. There is nowhere to put it (unless you think Bolt and company wouldn't mind giving up the throws area) and it isn't a need. Want, maybe, but nowhere close to a need. The fact that the upper sections of Koch are being covered up to keep the crowd more intimate helps a lot with Koch being too big for those sports.

While I think it would be awesome if Koch had capacity for 12,000, 15,000 or 18,000, I think it would take away from what makes that place so special. And as WuShock16 pointed out, should the program have a hiccup or two (such as when Marshall finally decides to leave his post, whether retirement (my preference) or he moves on because he's already accomplished what he set out to do at WSU, win a National Championship or four), filling anything more than 10,500 seats will be problematic.

Besides that, Duke seems to be satisfied in Cameron which seats just shy of 10,000 and I think the atmosphere the Shox have in CKA is perfect the way it is.

Would agree with improvements to Eck.

I wish Eck still had a dirt infield.

Just never liked the all turf look.

I think Koch Arena is fine. The will be moving the Shocker History Museum out into the concourse and converting the existing space into a recruiting room (for all sports I assume).

The main thing with Koch is to keep it maintained and state of the art going forward. Certainly don't let it ever slip into disrepair and general crappiness like we did in the 1990's.

Separate, smaller arena for Women's Basketball and Volleyball is want more than a need. Not sure if anything can be built in the throwing area South of the arena or not. Seems like that may well be there for drainage purposes although I don't know that for sure.

I think adding more quality on-campus student housing and amenities is more important than a separate venue for WBB and VB. Besides with the recruiting class we have coming in for VB we may need the Koch Arena capacity. (One can dream can't they).

Perhaps the big question is what to do with Cessna Stadium. I would have no problem directing more infrastructure money towards our track and field programs.

Stephenson mentioned a baseball stadium expansion in that awkward, tear filled press conference last year. I was actually surprised there was no discussion about that comment on here actually.. I think Koch arena and all the activities that happen there are fine. None of our teams need another facility to host their events and the size of Koch is fine, especially with intrust arena being so close. Gene's weepy reference to eck expansion though. Obviously if he mentioned it, it has been discussed at some level on the Wsu campus. I wonder if he meant, refurbishing and adding a few seats or just adding more seats in general.

The expansion he was talking about was new dug out, locker rooms and team rooms down the third base line. Traditionally third base dugout is the home dug out but not at WSU.

Was in Wichita recently and noticed the turnpike signs for Wichita State were terrible. Southbound, I didn't see one and northbound, it's about a third the size of KU "wichita campus sign". WSU needs more and larger directional signage on the turnpike.

Those terrifically misleading (to outsiders) "KU Wichita Campus" signs makes me want to grab my 12 gauge and go full redneck.

And KU made sure their sign, pointing to the facility originally earmarked to be a WSU health facility until politically stolen, is the first university signage visitors will encounter. Time for a WSU extension campus in Lawrence with credit hours at 60% those of other universities in Lawrence.

Shotguns being discharged in the city limits could get some serious time but yellow paint balls would be a different story. Then its only vandalism. Not that I ever gave it any thought myself.
