  • Frank Martin to SC

His denials over the weekend really weren't very believable.

Not that it really matters...but do you think 3G released that he is staying once he knew he wasn't getting the SC job?

I don't think GM wanted the job. If the reports are true that his beginning salary requirement is $2 million, then he knowingly priced himself out.

Am I the only one that sees a WSU-USC series starting up, just for esses and grins?

If the rumors are to be believed, the indication was that either Marshall had priced himself out of consideration well before the Martin talks got serious. There were very, very early reports that Marshall wouldn't be a serious candidate because he would demand too much of the AD. See the first entry below:

No way to know for certain, but this source appears to have been pretty good.

The really interesting question, not that it matters especially, is if the USC AD never especially courted Gregg because of differences (real or perceived).

If the USC AD can't get along with Gregg, how's that going to work out the first 45 times HCFM fires off 12 F bombs on national TV?

Danning Manning would love to have the KSU job! Actually, the timing for KSU is about a year off or perhaps they could have enticed Lon Kruger back into the fold.

K-State fans are probably about ready to run John Currie out-of-town, although I am not sure this isn't in the best interest of K-State in the long run. I think KSU pretty much had sold their soul to the devil with the Huggins/Martin hirings. I just have never felt real comfortable with Frank Martin. Maybe I simply wasn't wild about his style. KSU always seemed to have some turmoil going on with the team under Martin's leadership.

In any case, K-State may be better off in the long-run if they can make a quality hire. I think they will be able to find a capable replacment and it doesn't necessarily have to be a current head coach. Martin was elevated to from his assistant position.

And at 11:52. Soren Petro in KC gives the "KSU needs to give Marshall whatever he wants."

KSU will not be able to pull non-damaged goods, top tier coaches.

They might be wise and look at Steve Henson. He's been Kruger's #1assisstant for a while.

I think K-State could do worse than taking a look at Ben Jacobson at UNI. Although he may have no interest.

I hope he stays at UNI. His former mentor may advise him that the grass is not always greener in the Big XII.

I agree, Steve Henson is probably worth a look.
