  • Peele canned at Winthrop

You obviously can't read anything into this as it applies to our HC, but after back-to-back losing seasons, Marshall's former assistant Randy Peele was let go at Winthrop.

we need to give Marshall a raise. He may leave now.

Earl Grant? Chris Jans? Gary Squires?

Give he and all his assistants 50k. I don't think money matters to Coach.

Wasn't Peele Gregg's right hand man at Winthrop during their run of success? If one of our assistants gets an opportunity elsewhere, this may be the guy that replaces him.

That's what I was thinking. We need to get him as soon as possible if a position on our staff opens up.

Yes. He would of came here with Gregg if Winthrop didn't make him the HC.

Winthrops fans are mentioning Earl Grant, which is to be expected. They probably don't know who Chris Jans is and as far as I'm concerned, hope they never do.

I'm sorry, but just why would we want Peele if there is a vacancy? I know that Gregg had him as his assistant, but apparently he wasn't much of a success as a head coach. Peele was a success with Gregg -- Gregg has been a success without Peele. I'm not saying that Peele wouldn't be a good fit, but wouldn't we want an assistant (ala Jans) that could/would take over as head coach if Marshall ever decided to leave?

You can be a great assistant without being a great head coach. Peter Principle.
Coach Marshall and Coach Peele had a good run. Gregg may have feelings of loyalty in that regard. He may not feel that Coach Peele is a good fit. Just a thought.
Personally, I hope all the assistants stay, but it's not just the head coaches of successful programs that become targets.

Peele was his lead recruiter at Winthrop I believe. I could see him filling any vacancy that could arise.

If there is to be a vacancy, why not fill it with someone who is familiar with the system?

Well, let's just hope we don't have to worry about filling ANY vacancy (head or assistant).

Enjoy the ride folks. It's been a great season, and there is more to come.

It's going to be a tumultuous off season, and grinding about it every day isn't going to help.

Remember the domino effect is the thing that's going to cause the most angst.
