Last night, Louisiana-Lafayette won at Western Kentucky on a layup with 3 seconds remaining. ULL had 6 players on the floor and no one caught it.

Wow. In 21 seconds, no ref, no WK player or coach, saw 6 Cajuns on the floor. I can't image that fans were not yelling at the top of their lungs and at least one ref hear and count.

They were, and pointing. You can see them doing it and the ref ignoring them

Do you really expect the refs to pay any attention to what the fans are yelling? How much noise was there? Could they hear exactly what was being said anyway? Officials learn to block out fans and whatever they're saying. It's pretty pointless to listen to them.

With that said, and with the video evidence. Those officials are going to have to answer some questions from the Sun Belt and it could cost them future work. You're supposed to count when you come out of a timeout. Sometimes it slips through and isn't noticed right away. But seeing them playing man and one guy with no one on him would seem odd and may cause one official to take a quick glance and count then.

This is kind of funny to me. I read about this yesterday and saw that Brad Gaston was doing the game and I know that he's done some of our games before. He's always seemed to do a good job IMO and I remember him doing the home game against Indiana State last year. One of the refs, not sure it was him, made a call against the Shockers which actually was a good call and it led to an official's timeout. During this, some students at the front of the student section a few rows below me were yelling about the call and such. Gaston went over there and actually started talking to them about why it was the correct call.. He was a really nice guy about it and the students were just idiots, but something about that just seemed a bit off.

Kind of crazy that a really good officiating crew can miss something like this but everybody does make mistakes.

I'll admit that it's different during a dead ball. That's a good story and not totally uncommon depending on the atmosphere and where you're at in the game.
