My son's "Student Activity Fee" this semester at WSU was $680 (on a semester's tuition of $3600). I'm sure a portion of that goes to subsidize athletics, but I can't dig any deeper to find out exactly how much.

How much is the YMCA? Is the pep band included? That would tell you a lot. I’d bet the athletics is no more than half of it.

I think that fee includes a number of things, including the Y, athletics, probably funds that go to student government, student center, etc.
