Air Force to valley? WTH

Air Force athletic director Hans Mueh called the WAC and Missouri Valley about possibly placing all its sports except football in one of the conferences with the expectation that the football team could be invited to the Big East.
Elgin say MVC not interested in expanding to 11. Has had no talks of expansion what so ever. Air Force did call him to discuss coming to MVC. But nothing will happen it.

Originally posted by Ta townFrom the mouth of the AFA AD in this article. Another newspaper reference about AFA joining the valley. Would the schools really vote in AFA? This blows....
Seriously ORU would be better than AFA, not in name but at least baseball would get a much needed addition that is solid and basketball wouldn't be any worse than AFA. (NOT SUGGESTING ORU TO MVC just saying I'd take them over AFA any day).
EDIT: even worse, mvcfans posted this article on his sight: This quote kills me. What is Doug E thinking? He better have a 12th member lined up that is going to offset this bigtime.
"Air Force athletic director Hans Mueh said the academy is “strongly leaning” towards moving its sports other than football to the Missouri Valley Conference, which has told Air Force it would be interested in hosting those teams.
“Now that I’m excited about this, I might push to bring those other sports to the Missouri Valley Conference, even if we stayed in the Mountain West for football,” Mueh said."

Having caught up on all this, the guy that runs MVCfans posted an article where he quotes (whom I assume is) AFA's beat writer as saying "I'd be surprised if, based on everything Hans Mueh and others have told me, if Air
Force doesn’t move its Olympic sports to the Missouri Valley Conference, barring a
change of heart or some unforseen issue."
Hans Mueh being the Air Force AD. I can't imagine Paul Suellentrop saying in a half hour talk with Dr. Sexton that's what was said unless he was damned certain it was a mortal lock. I have no doubt Paul's ability to sniff out the truth is better than most if not all other beat writers, but still. That's an awful strong affirmation for there to be nothing on our end.

Originally posted by 60ShockI hear your comments and disregarding the fact that the likelihood of this happening are very remote, I guess, being a military man, I am the lone wolf who would welcome the AFA with open arms.
!. They are very well known school widely recognized throughout the entire country, which certainly cannot be said for perhaps more than half of our present members. Otherwords, their presence adds recognition to a conference badly in need of it.
2. And this is not only in sports, but academically as well. Having any of the Military Academies as a MVC member would be an overall plus to Valley.
3. They play a very decent brand of football. And this may be the most important aspect of the equation. If this university ever bites the bullet and brings back football, which I personally think they will eventually have to do to stay competitive), this might just be the catalyst that will assist it along. For it would not be inconceivable, even if the AFA still plays football in another conference, for them to play us in football. And if Wichita is the sports town that many of you seem to think it is, you should have no trouble drawing upwards of 50,000 fans to the game.
Of course, one game along won't do it. But it definitely could be the start.
You make some good points.
I am more open minded about this move than many of the others on this board. If nothing else going to Colorado Springs would make a good road trip.
Maybe I am more open minded because my dad was in the Air Force and I have two nephews currently in the Air Force.
Shoot I even have an Air Force sweat shirt (given to me by one of my nephews- but I do wear it).
While Air Force may not add much from a competitive standpoint they will add national attention to the Valley and thus could help to improve our TV contracts.
I think I may have just talked myself into supporting this move.

Expansion
I can't believe the MVC isn't considering expansion in this day and age. They beat around the bush until Dallas Baptist decided to go elswhere and that have been a very good thing for baseball in a conference that is decidedly too weak in baseball. Gene S said he would have liked to have had Dallas Baptist in the Conference for baseball only.
Also, considering the way the MVC is laid out geographically, Dallas Baptist would be a good thing for WSU in terms of travel. The same thing can be said for the AFA. I think it's safe to say that WSU is on the outskirts of the current MVC set of schools.

This should be interesting. It seems to me like the WAC wants AFA more than the Valley does, but AFA might want the MVC more than the WAC. I was really glad that Frank Schwab was willing to go on the record about his conversation with AFA's Athletic Director which I posted on the site.

Just to point something out, when A&M was in the news in the very beginning about making moves to join the SEC, Mike Slive the head of the SEC said they were not in talks with A&M and weren't looking to expand, for legal reasons.
Maybe Elgin is doing the same, so the MWC can't take legal action against the MVC if they do end up taking AFA.
Just something to ponder.
