        Sunday

        NO GAMES

A lot of fighting amongst each other this week. Thursday is nothing but CUSA 6 games.

Different sort of prediction this week. FAU over UTSA. North Texas over Charlotte. UAB over Rice. FAU over UTEP. Charlotte over Rice. FIU over UTSA. UAB over WKU.

That Charlotte v Rice game could be a good one. I wouldn't be surprised to see Rice pull it off.

I did not have UTSA coming from 14 down at the half to outscore FIU 53-35 in the 2nd half. Had that game been in San Antonio, I might have picked the Roadrunners. Didn't think they'd get it done on the road.

              FAU (28-3) visits LaTech (14-17) 76-72

              I'm seeing a 7-3 week

North Texas over MTSU, FAU over Rice, Charlotte over UTSA, UAB over Charlotte, North Texas over WKU, Rice over FIU and FAU over LaTech.

FAU sure can put up a lot of points. This is their 3rd game scoring over 100. Three others in the 90s and seven in the 80s.

UTSA knocking off Charlotte shocked me. UTSA has had some competitive losses and Charlotte has had some struggles the last month, but I still never even considered that a possibility.

North Texas holding WKU to 33 total points is insane.

CUSA Conference Tournament March 8-11 from Frisco, TX

There are apparently two courts wherever this is being played and they'll play games at essentially the same time, staggered by 30 minutes or so.

                Wednesday

                6 Rice (18-14) plays 11 UTSA (10-22) 72-71

                Thursday

                1 FAU (29-3) plays 8 WKU (17-16) 75-51
                5 Charlotte (18-14) plays 4 MTSU (19-13) 65-66
                2 North Texas (26-6) plays 10 LaTech (15-18) 74-46
                3 UAB (24-8) plays 6 Rice (18-15) 87-60

                Friday

                1 FAU (30-3) plays 4 MTSU (19-14) CBSSN 68-65
                2 North Texas (26-7) plays 3 UAB (25-8) CBSSN 69-76

                Saturday

                1 FAU (31-3) plays 3 UAB (25-9) CBSSN 78-56

I thought about listing out the entire tournament, but didn't. Maybe I'll change my mind later.

Three of the four remaining teams in the CUSA tournament are future members. FAU plays at 1130 this morning and they're followed by what should be a good game between North Texas and UAB. Both games are on CBS SpotsNet.

FAU dominated the first half of their game and lead 37-25.

MTSU came out hot in the 2nd half and made it a game. FAU wins 68-65. MTSU had a good look from about 30 to tie.

North Texas and UAB going at it right now on CBSSN for the right to face FAU for the auto bid.

UAB is all over North Texas in the first. 22-2 to start the game. With two minutes left in the half, North Texas has it down to single digits (30-21). At the half it's 35-28. North Texas has made this a game.

North Texas and UAB are in the NIT Final 4. North Texas, after beating Oklahoma State 65-59 in OT, moves on to play Wisconsin on Tuesday and will be joined by UAB who plays Utah Valley after knocking of Vandebilt 67-59. North Texas is currently a 1.5 point favorite and UAB is a 2 point favorite to make it to the NIT Championship game.

So a an all-AAC Newbies NIT Final definitely a possibility.

FAU squares off against K-State today in the Elite 8 round of the NCAA Tournament.

As far as MBB is concerned the AAC may be losing name recognition with the loss of Houston and Cincinnati but may not be losing much at all in actual quality of play if these year's post season play is any indication. The question is can this AAC Newbies sustain that success over the longer term. Time will tell.

Could have 3 AAC teams playing still. Amazing. UNT to the ‘ship and UAB still to go.

Held Wisconsin to 13 points in the 2nd half after allowing 41 in the 1st half.

Plus Charlotte finished of their season last week winning the CBI. Not that is all that impressive, but they will be 1 of 3 teams that will finish their season with a win and either North Texas or UAB will join them for sure. FAU is a real long shot to make it 3 for 3 but let's see how that goes.

Go Shockers - RH: AAC Newcomers Series: North Texas Mean Green

                                Listen to the podcast

The American Athletic Conference undergoes a makeover on July 1 when North Texas, Rice, UTSA, UAB, Charlotte and Florida Atlantic join. Those six schools, all from Conference USA, sign on as Cincinnati, Central Florida and Houston move to the Big 12.

Those six schools won 15 tournament or regular-season titles in CUSA last season, highlighted by FAU's sweep in men's basketball and Charlotte winning men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track, men's golf, softball (regular season), baseball (tournament) and men's outdoor track.

The group of new AAC members also earned 13 of C-USA's Sport Academic Awards for its 16 sports.
