  • Logging on Problem

    Help please.

For the past week, I have had to re-enter my name and password every time I get on as the area is always blank.

Yes, everytime I have clicked the "remember me" block and logged in.

I have tried several ways of trying to log out, but they all end up requiring to completely log on the next time. I almost always "log out" clicking on the log out thingamagig at the top of the screen, but this has not worked for me for this last week.

I have also tried not clicking on the log out block and simply clicking on the X at the top of the screen, but this hasn't worked either.

This is something new as I am not doing anything different than what I have done in the past several years.

Royal advised me in the distant past to click on the log out at the top of the screen and for years I have had not experienced any problems logging on.

OK, all, I've tweaked a couple of things to see if I can clear up the login problems. You will need to clear the cache in your browser first (usually in an Options or Preferences menu) and then try it out. Please let me know one way or the other as to whether the tweak was effective. Thanks!

Thanks, Shockband, for your prompt reply.

I went to Internet Explorer and deleted all my cookies, history, and my temporary internet files. However, I left it set to preserve "favorite web site data."

Was this correct? or do I need to do more?

I then went to shockernet and re-entered my name and password, and clicked the remember me button.

I logged out and when I returned to log on again - I was required to completely log in again???

My understanding of how "Remember Me" works, is that if you don't log out, then close the browser, you will be logged in automatically when you come back in a new browser.

If you actually click "Log out", you are overriding the "Remember Me" box you may have checked when logging in.

I think what Royal says is accurate - if you want to use "Remember Me" just close your browser without logging out. The cookie fix I made was to try and correct the issue of people getting logged out immediately after logging in, or having to log in twice for the log in to hold.

Shockband/Royal, after my last message where I said it didn't work, I just logged back on after several hours, and everything was fine and back to normal.

Thanks to both of you for your assistance and taking the time to help. Really appreciate it.
