  • Logging-On Problem

I read the blurb on logging-on and it does not appear to apply in my case.

For the last four/five days, everytime I attempt to get on Shockernet, I have to re-enter my "User Name" and "Password" and even though I check the "Remember Me" block each time.

And I am using the same computer each time.

Once I re-enter the info, I am immediately welcomed onto the net. But if I log-out and try to come back immediately or several hours later, or if I attempt to log-on the next day, I have to go through the entire log-on procedure again.

Thanks and I appreciate any help/advice you can give me.

    60,

You may be using the "log out" term too loosely. But if not, here's the deal. If you actually click the "Log Out" button/link at the top (Log Out [ 60 Shock ]), it does just that - logs you out of ShockerNet. Thus, you will need to log in again upon return. The "Remember Me" box only works until you either log out of ShockerNet or clear your browser history.

Beyond that, it may be an issue with your browser settings. I have done very little experimenting with this, but if you have the security/cookie settings set to be fairly restrictive, it may not be allowing ShockerNet to save a "cookie" on your system that tells the site you are logged in. In that case, once you close your browser, you have also effectively logged out. So you might look into that.

Hopefully, that will help you figure out what you might be doing or what might be happening.

Let me know what you find out.

    RS

Thanks, Royal. I did use "log out" loosely. I do not believe I have ever hit the button to log out.

I will check my settings as you mentioned though.

Brilliant, Royal, worked like a charm. Yesterday, after doing what you suggested with my browser, I logged on listing my User Name and Password, then excited the system and was able to log on again immediately without having to enter anything.

Then, today, I had no trouble logging.

        Thanks again.

For the past week, I have been having the same problem as described in the initial post by 60. I do not have my browser set to remember me and I always click "Log Out" before leaving the site. This happens regardless of the computer I am using.

          Any suggestions?

I must be missing something. The original problem was having to enter username and password each time you visit. And you say you do NOT check "Remember Me" and you log out before you leave ShockerNet.

If those two things are true, you should have to enter your username and password on each visit.

Sorry Royal, I misunderstood the initial problem. Here is what is happening when I log in:

I enter my user name and password, then click the Log In button. My user name and password then disappear from the input boxes, however I am not logged in. I then have to re-enter my user name and password and click Log In. I am then logged in and able to utilize all normal functions. While a minor inconvenience, my profile is treated as though I was just logged.

The minor inconvenience being that I never know which posts are new since my last actual visit.

I should also note that it does not matter if I try to log in from the main page, or if I use the "Log In" link in the top banner, the results are the same.

I hope this is a little more clear.

I appreciate any help you are able to offer.

Rz, I frequently had that happen as well. My issue was that I was logging in to check from my phone as well, so basically when I logged in the first time it basically logged me out and the seconf time logged me in as if id just logged out. I now make sure to physically log out on phone before closing.

Think I got it figured out. Went in and cleared all cookies, seems to be working fine now.

                      Logging in

This problem seems to not be limited to a log in screen, but when you put the cursor on a field to type, it goes black, and YOU can not see what you are typing. Why is this? You have to click in another field first to see what you typed in the previous field.

Also, just a suggestion, but you all may want to clear your cookies, because going from one software to the next, it will still be sending the cookie from the same domain. It may be causing a problem reading which actual cookie it's reading. If you clear your cookies, and your cache, set your permissions away from strict, there shouldn't be much problem anymore.

Let us know if you guys are still having problems.

This is the same way it looked on the Advanced Search page. For now the only way to see what you're typing is to go to a Light background.

When go to log on from home on my laptop, I don't see the "Remember Me" option. I have tried Chrome and IE9. I see it and use it on my phone. Any ideas why?
