  • Connection Problems

I'm on a connection right now that has a maximum speed of 1 Mbps and every now and then, whenever I go to a page on shockernet.net, I get the message "This page can't be displayed". After refreshing the page, the page comes up okay. This seems to occur most often on shockernet.net. Other web sites don't have this problem as often.

There's another location where I go that has a connection speed of 3 Mbps and I never have this problem with shockernet.net or any other web site.

So is my problem because of the connection speed? I thought 1 Mbps should be fast enough. I can watch video just fine with the 1 Mbps speed, even though it has to buffer a little longer at the first.

    Not speed related.

Most likely culprit is one of 3 things:

    1) The easiest to test: The page you are trying to hit on Shockernet is cached with page cannot be displayed and until you refresh you override the cache setting.

Solution: To see if this is the issue, clear your cache (not your cookies). In Internet Explorer go to Tools --> Internet Options --> General tab --> "Delete ..." button" --> Check ONLY "Temporary Internet files and website files" and click the Delete button. Restart Internet Explorer.

    2) If that doesn't work then the computer with 1Mbps connections might have multiple DNS servers set up on it (or they are being set by DHCP), and one of the servers is not responding.

Solution: If you reboot your system and that doesn't work, try powering off your router (or cable modem/DNS modem/whatever you have providing Internet) for 30 seconds, and then reboot your computer again. That'll probably get ya going if step 1 didn't.

    3) The NSA's data lines are plugged up and their attempts to hijack your information are causing you issues.

Solution: Run outside stark naked to the van sitting near the phone equipment next to your house, grab your junk, and yell at the top of your lungs "I love America! My dongle is broken!!!!" The colder outside the better because your voice will carry farther. Run back inside and wait for the knock at your door. The nice men at the door will assist you.
