  • Federal Work Compensation

President Obama want to give all Federal employees a 1.4% accross the board raise.

Since 2005 government employees salaries have increased by 25% (inflation 9%)

    Average Compensation
    Federal/Civillian: 81,258 (Salary) + 41,791 benifits
    State/Local: 53,056 (salary) + 16,857
    Private: 50,462 + 10,589

    In defense department

    2005 - 9 employees with income >170,000
    2008 - 214
    2010 - 994

So the question is the federal workworce just more skill full or is this a system run-amok. Moral is I guess I need to find a government gravy train job.

    Interesting.

    From the article:

National Treasury Employees Union President Colleen Kelley counters that the proposed raise "is a modest amount and should be implemented" to help make salaries more comparable with those in the private sector.

Intriguing......this from the Heritage Foundation seems to refute the need to "help make salaries more comparable with those in the private sector".

The federal government pays its employees substantially more than they would earn in the private sector. The current federal pay system:

I say hold her to that comment. Make salaries more comparable with the private sector....I bet 'ol Colleen is going to bring home a shade less bacon if that's the case.

I think it is obvious that the Administration will have a difficult time getting this through Congress (lame duck session or not) and the President would be wise not to pick a fight over this issue. Among other things, it could be easily characterized as another public union sector pay off.

Of course, the White House has not exactly demonstrated the best political instincts the past two years.

Sometimes the best way to get this stuff on the minds of the voting public is for unwise policy to get pushed.

Bring it on, Obama. Let's get the people educated!
