Just my $.02 as a parent and non-educator:

    1. Get the feds OUT of education. Completely. No Dept. of Ed, no testing standards, no federal funding.

    2. Reduce state control to only what makes sense (such as funding and minimal curriculum guidelines/requirements).

That will give much more control to school boards and parents and allow them to operate more like a private school.

Kansas K12 funding has increased leaps and bounds over the last several years with basically no increases in achievement.

Kansas' tax burden is among the highest in the region.

It is an absolte straw horse to say that lowering state taxes causes an increase in local taxes for K12. That simply is not true.

We elect school board members and legislators to make decisions. Some of those decisions can be to operate more efficiently.

Please tell me where all of these increase in K12 spending went? What was improved?

For those who have wasteful spending on technology in your school system...please pass it along to my kids' school. I'm on the Technology Steering Committee for this private school and we could really use some computers that aren't 6 years old. I guarantee it will get used. Our teachers and students conduct fundraisers to buy Smartboards, projectors, webcams, flashdrives and even textbooks. You can be assured they get used.

State assessment scores for the students are quite good, without teaching to the test.
