  • 4th district debate on KSN

Even though I'm not in the 4th district this debate caught my eye.

So far, I think Susan Ducey (Ref.) has had the best answer to each question. She's answered them in a direct and informed manner. Pompeo and Smith are doing well. Goyle is mostly just taking stabs at Pompeo.

In my opinion Ducey's answers were the most impressive. She certainly wasn't afraid to speak her mind.

The question I would have for Goyle is, if you voted with Republicans 80% of the time (a stat I think is missing some context), why are you still a Democrat?

Obviously, I didn’t catch the debate but the 4th is my old district – so I am mildly interested. Any polling results – where do these candidates stand? Also, I glanced at Ducey website – seems solid on a lot of issues. Did she run in the Republican primary and, if so, why not?

Also, as an aside, I have never been a fan of the Kansas GOP leadership. As a young college lad 15 or so years ago, the local GOP’s incompetence boggled my mind.

Goyle is not the only Democrat pulling this kind of stunt as if the electorate can’t distinguish between the (D) and the (R) on the ballot.

I know nothing about Ducey but may have to do some research.

So, I get an e-mail from Raj this morning saying that he pounded Pompeo in the last debate and accused him of taking foreign money for his campaign in the final week. Isn't that illegal?

What, saying he pounded Pompeo or taking foreign money? Either way, if Raj Goyle said it, it must be true. Goyle said he took care of the Fred Phelps protesters too but they're still out there.

It looks like she's solidly in the Reform Party. She ran in the 2008 general election on the Reform Party ticket and got 2.3% of the vote.

Well in this environment, if she actually wanted to get elected, and if she is as solid as you think she might be she probably would have been better off trying her luck in the GOP primary. I don’t know the first thing about Pompeo what is his story?

I just skimmed over her website and like what I see. I'll read it more closely when I have more time. I wasn't aware she was even running until now, which is a real shame.

She remarked about that in her answer about how the election was going so far. She's been edited out of events she attended (ie, she got no media coverage) but if she wasn't at an event, that was surely reported.

I do think the media is a major culprit in herding people through the R/D gate and not giving equal coverage to third-party candidates.

I agree. And I've been all for third party candidates getting a real shot. Let the people decide. If nothing else, they'll make people think.

As a person that knows Raj and his family, I am very disappointed in the campaign he has run.

To be fair, I was never going to vote for him but his half truths and in some cases blatant falsehoods have been frustrating to watch. I believe him to be a good person, and he is a very smart individual but I think President Reagan said it best when he said "The problem with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, it's that they know so much that isn't so."

What scares me the most is he appears to have the mindset of a career politician and I am afraid we are stuck with him in one way or another for many years to come.

So Goyle is likely to win? And I take it that Pompeo is a less than impressive candidate.

No, I do not think Goyle will win as recent polls suggest Pompeo leads 50%-40% but I do believe it will be much closer than that and in any other election cycle, Raj would probably win.

Mike is an average candidate at best, imho. My comment about Raj being around is based on his current state seat, and the fact that I believe he will continue to run, somewhere, sometime, until he is out of options. I would bet he'll win a big race at some point in time. He is capable of raising a lot of money.
