Nobody does. I don't often agree with Juan, but he always makes me think and usually forces me to at least re-examine my thought process.

I will admit I think he has become less liberal in the last 2-5 years, and I honestly believe NPR was just begging for an excuse to let him go.

O'Reilly is going to absolutely go on a crusade against NPR. Tonight's Talking Points is going to make the Book of Revelations seem tame.

You are probably correct, Doc. NPR has shown increasing hostility toward its employees that also work for Fox News.

I don’t know if Williams has become more conservative. That perception could merely be a reflection of the fact that other liberal/progressives pundits have taken a flying leap off into crazy land.

I respect Williams because he doesn’t spout the “party-line” all the time (sometimes he does) and he actually attempts to make counter-arguments. He has, in the past, been willing to work with right leaning organizations with regard to certain issues. And by all accounts he appears to be highly ethical. I don’t agree with Williams very often, and sometimes I find myself arguing with the T.V. (basically – come on Juan you don’t really believe what you just said, do you?), but by and large he engages in honest debate. And that is a fine thing.

That NPR fired Juan Williams says much more about NPR than Mr. Williams.

I finally got to read the quote that got him fired as Fox has the story up now and all I can say is wow. They were obviously looking for any reason to fire him if that's worthy of dismissal.

I agree. Williams was clearly being honest while at the same time saying that these attitudes are problematic. It seems to me that falls squarely into the “honest liberal” category of discourse. But that is just me. I suppose, NPR has its own interpretation of sharia, Williams apparently violated it, and paid the price. I think you and Doc are correct, NPR was probably looking to drop him because of the Fox connection and they’re using this as an excuse. That doesn’t make it any less annoying, but it does make it less shocking, at least to me.

As an aside, I have never understood NPR’s objection to its employees appearing on Fox News. You’d think they’d appreciate the fact that he is making the liberal case, intelligently, to a largely conservative audience. After all how else are the crazy right-wingers going to learn? :noidea:

There is no place for intellectually honest liberals anymore.

Agreed, O'Reilly will make NPR a poster child for Liberal entrenchment in a supposed non-partisan, government funded non-profit.

As others have said, I rarely agree with what Mr. Williams says, however I do respect him. I think at times, especially when on Fox News Sunday (and when arguing with Bill Kristol), he uses extreme examples just to make a point and/or get Kristol to shut up. Also, I thought he did a great job when he filled in on O'Reilly a number of weeks back.

Less Juan on NPR likely means more Juan on Fox News...and I think that is a good thing.

I agree. NPR just needs to be taken out to the shed.

If Republicans wanted to pick a fight, they could talk about de-funding NPR.

It would be a good start to the shutting down of these dinosaur government programs that are nothing more than jobs programs for bearded Marxists.

Bob Beckel just attempted to compare Soros to the "Cock" brothers.....nice try Bob.

Reports are that NPR is getting pressure to fire Mara Liasson as well. It seems obvious that the money is talking from Soros. And that is fine.....but NOT the tax payers money.

Defund the NPR RIGHT NOW. Not 1 more penny.

Fox News and the right in this country are starting to turn the tide and win the battle. Common sense needs to make a comeback, and hopefully we'll see some real change soon.

I don't like the selective targeting of defunding. It will create a divisive battle that will distract people from the more fundamental issues.

Defunding groups like NPR for rights violations is fine, but they should make it part of a broader sweep.
