  • Democrat Baucus blasts Obama CMS recess appointment

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) on Wednesday blasted the Obama administration for sidestepping Congress to install Donald Berwick atop the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

"Senate confirmation of presidential appointees is an essential process prescribed by the Constitution that serves as a check on executive power and protects Montanans and all Americans by ensuring that crucial questions are asked of the nominee — and answered," Baucus said in a statement.

Obama needs to hide this guy from the public, hence the recess appointment. This provision was intended to be used when Congress was gone for long recesses, not a long weekend.

Yet another chapter for the upcoming Orwell novel "More Equal than You".

Have you seen his statements on redistribution?

Oh, please. What a self-serving, disingenuous statement by Senator Baucus. If Baucus wanted to get the ball rolling with Dr. Berwick he could have scheduled a hearing. I believe Berwick is required to testify before the committee Baucus chairs for crying out loud.

The fact is Baucus didn’t want the hearing to take place for political reasons. His phony, in this case, self professed devotion to the “process prescribed by the Constitution” is nauseating. How stupid does he think people are?

He doesn't have to think. It's demonstrated somewhere in this country at least every two years. That's how people like him get into office.

But yeah, funny how he runs to the Constitution when it's politically advantageous to do so.
