Surprise South Carolina Democratic Senate Nominee Refuses to Step Aside

I'm not sure what the odds are of knocking off DeMint anyway, but this guy has no clue what's going on and has no prayer of winning. I can see why the Democratic leadership wants him to step aside. Although, I'm not sure what it says about the voters of SC that it turned out this way.

Sen. DeMint will win reelection – his opposition was always going to be a sacrificial lamb, of sorts.

This situation is really strange and in a way I feel really bad for this fellow. It is my understanding, that it cost him, out of his own pocket, a little more than $10K to actually file and get his name on the ballot. The Democratic Party in SC accepted the funds, although I read they tried to discourage him from filing – I suppose they can’t stop him.

SC politics, generally speaking, is just wacky.

Yet, last November, he had to have his family post the $500 necessary to bail him out of jail after being arrested for showing up on a college campus and soliciting a freshman student, showing her pornographic images in a basement computer lab then suggesting they go back to her dorm room.

I understand Democrats are trying to say some undercover Republican paid this guy off to run.

I don't care what happened....nobody has a chance to be JD anyway, this is really sad...not just stupid.

If they were attempting to imply he is a Republican plant; that was my first thought as well – it has happened before in SC primaries. As for coaching based on a profile I read in, I think, the Washington Post – if that was happening it was probably his brother or father pulling the strings.

Notwithstanding, after I thought about it why would anyone risk all the bad publicity and/or possible criminal investigations on a guy like Greene? Frankly, Greene, even though he appears to be a nice guy (the felony charge aside for a moment), is not remotely competent. Moreover, this is a race where the Republican incumbent is as close to a lock as you can get. This is all very bizarre.

As for where he got the money for the filing fee – who the heck knows – but I am sure we will find out eventually.

Not only did South Carolina Democrats actually cast votes for this man, He won decisively with 60% of the vote.
