Brings up some interesting points. I can see the school's side to this, but that doesn't make it right or justified. In the United States, one should NEVER half to fear wearing American patriotic items, anytime or anywhere. I would think that if one was a true American with Mexican background, that on Cinco de Mayo, they would wear something that had both an American flag and a Mexican flag to show their pride in being an American citizen and honor to their Mexican heritage. On the other hand, the five boys could have worn the same clothing, but also added something to show and honor their fellow American-Mexican students.

I remember about eight years ago, we were vacationing in central California and visited some friends in Watsonville in Monterey County. In the middle of some farm land just outside of Watsonville, stood a tall pole with a Mexican flag flying. I asked my friends (whose family settled in that area back in the 1870s) about the flag and why it was there without an American flag flying higher next to it. I was told it had been there for some time and no one, even government officals, had the nerve to take it down. They said, "The Mexican community basically says they will eventually take back California without ever firing a shot".

So if you have never lived in such an area, maybe you can understand a little bit why a state like Arizona would pass laws to merely enforce National laws that are already on the books.

I don't have those connections as you do but I'm with ya. I understand the thought process but it was wrong.

And as far as Arizona goes, all polls I've seen show Americans support what they're doing. Arizonans really support it. It's a shame that DC hasn't dealt with the issue and forced the hand of the state.

And I'm not sure why some people have such a hard time differentiating between legal and illegal. We have laws for a reason. Or at least I thought we did.

Why were "Mexican-American" students allowed to celebrate their heritage at a public school in the first place?

          That sounds incendiary to me.

They are marching with a Mexican flag? Get the **** back to Mexico seems to be a valid and productive activity for them at this point.

Are we really concerned about not doing anything that might cause gang retaliation? How about executing on the spot any gang members? My plan would put that gang problem to rest, once and for all.

The level of stupidity is so high right now, in so many areas of public life, it has surpassed what could be considered laughable.

I wonder, if the same students decided to burn the American flag, if the liberals would be so quick to demonize them?

          Hmmmm....I wonder........

Only members of the Tea Party Movement are available for demonization.

All others are strictly protected by the new politically-correct mandates handed down by Queen Nancy Pelosi, especially those who burn the American flag, engage in illegal immigration, engage in terrorism on behalf of Islam, are affiliated with ACORN or Rev. Wright and those who prefer to free-load off of taxpayers.

Yes, considering that sunshine pumpers are always right, you can declare yourself as a protected class of citizens and nobody will convince you otherwise, even if it's not true.

                :D

Let me get this right. Hispanic students skipped class on Thursday to march on school district headquarters and chanted "we want respect". Respect for what! Their rights and freedom wasn't stepped on by school administrators.

And just what is this 2005 Live Oak Hispanic graduate doing there. If anyone is trying to incite something, this march is doing it. As for the gangs, the absolute worst thing they could do for themselves and their community is to cause trouble.

Anyone want to take a shot at what "si se puede"/"yes we can" is meant to stand for.

Because you are a patriotic American with a functional brain?

I'm certain this is just a "one off".....nothing to see here. The real scare is from the Tea Partiers...they are the ones to really be frightened of.
