  • Trust in Gov't Near Historic Low

Pew Research Center shows public confidence in the federal government at one of the lowest points in a half-century.

"The government's been lying to people for years. Politicians make promises to get elected, and when they get elected, they don't follow through," says Cindy Wanto, 57, a registered Democrat from Pennsylvania who joined several thousand for a rally in Washington on April 15 -- the tax filing deadline. "There's too much government in my business. It was a problem before Obama, but he's certainly not helping fix it."
Majorities in the survey call Washington too big and too powerful, and say it's interfering too much in state and local matters. The public is split over whether the government should be responsible for dealing with critical problems or scaled back to reduce its power, presumably in favor of personal responsibility.

Unfortunately, the GOP plan is a little effective.

Step One: Decry the national government; claim that it's broken.

Step Two: Do everything in your power to undermine the function of the national government.

Step Three: Talk about how people don't like the government through studies funded by oil money.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Of course rjl. God forbid the people actually know something. So typical of a left wing hate monger. The people are against you, they don't know anything. If they were on your side, then they'd be geniuses. You know what's best for everyone, right? Must be all the weed you and your lot smoke.

Did anyone see Sen. McCaskill and Sen. Levin yesterday? Is it possible to talk about something that you know LESS about? If it is....I would hate to see that.

        The Democratic Plan.

        1)Lie, blame President Bush.

2)Blame profits, as long as it's not lawyers.

3)Lie, blame President Bush.....Throw in Dick Cheney for good measure.

        4)Blame anyone but your constituency.

5)Lie, blame Bush, Cheney and evil big businesses.

6)Hope President Obama can still campaign (that means lie) successfully and pull the wool over even more eyes in 6 months.

7)When 1-6 fail, blame President Bush.

        When 1-7 fail.......hail mary time.

8)Use drugs, lie, blame Bush, Cheney, Hitler, Tea Party, big business, all people who work and make a profit and pray you can get a few million illegals signed up to vote for free stuff and keep you in power.

Once again, you project your argumentative fallacies onto something you do not understand, me, then have the temerity to actually perform every one of the fallacies not moments later. Throw in a little bit of back-woods nonsensical stereotyping--because doing otherwise would actually thought!--and you have the recipe for yet another unsubstantive WuDrWu post.

I really do not understand where you got all your hate, Dr., but you are really starting to marginalize yourself all over this board. Your rabid ramblings are really turning your friends into enemies.

Funny how your hate ramblings are pure genius for everyone to bow to....yet mine are hate laced.

Interesting how a conservative is not allowed to speak without being hit with the hate label.

You my friend, or not, don't get it, and that's fine. You aren't anymore interested in a substantive discussion than anyone you demonize, again, whatever.

If I have turned "friends" against me, so be it....they probably weren't friends in the first place and if I needed a lot more cyber friends, then my life wasn't too hot in the first place.

The goal is to make people think and challenge what they believe is and should be right. Your goal is to incite and prod. We have different goals. So be it. I will continue to believe what I believe is right and you can continue to chase whatever it is you chase. Good luck to you.

              You don't "speak," you insult.

Post something substantive, and you would be right. Post nothing but insults and GOP funded platitudes and talking points whose sole purpose is to discredit anyone who doesn't think like them, get branded a hater.

My goal is to incite and prod? I've probably posted more substantive information in here than 90% of the other posts in this forum. Quite frankly, I'm pretty careful at (a) posting facts to back up my assertions, and (b) making sure those facts come from a reputable, unbiased source. Then I either cite my source, or make sure my source is something that's readily available for anyone to find on their own (for example, in this thread, it's easy to find information detailing how the Pew Institute was initially created with money from Sun Oil).

You come in and project. You insult. I call you out on it, and you do a "whoa is me" victim crybaby maneuver. I can't tell if you are being willfully ignorant, obtuse, or what, but just three posts after you say this:

So typical of a left wing hate monger. The people are against you, they don't know anything. If they were on your side, then they'd be geniuses. You know what's best for everyone, right?
              you say this:

Interesting how a conservative is not allowed to speak without being hit with the hate label.
So it's OK for you to tell me I can't have an opinion, but the second I call you out for unsubstantive hate, you play victim and claim I'm telling you the same and how utterly awful that is.

That's even ignoring how laughable the notion is that I'm somehow impacting your right to freely post in the politics forum. Ninety-nine percent of the posts here are pro-GOP ones dying on the vine, yet I'm somehow impacting a conservative's right to say what he wants?

Are you serious? Think about what you are alleging here, Doc. Think about it. It doesn't even remotely make sense.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

It is you that attempts to marginalize anyone with an opinion that is different than your own. Just keep stirring the pot and see what happens. You and others like you may very well be rallying others to your own demise. Frustration is growing with those who would govern against the will of PRODUCTIVE people.

Maybe it's just me, but between the you-should've-been-aborted blast, the "subhuman debris" ad hominem attack, and the content of the last paragraph, this post feels like a threat of violence and that is wholly unacceptable. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone, whether behind the veil of the Internet or otherwise, for that sort of behavior. You have merely brought shame to yourself and betrayed the deepest values of the country your ilk claim to love and desire to protect.

                      Ummm….a couple of things:

                      (1) What is so controversial about the results of this particular poll?;

                      (2) I wouldn’t lecture about logical fallacies and then make one; and

                      (3) Some people need to clean the inside of their bubbles – I think it is getting difficult for them to see outside. :)

The more this gov't grows and the more entitlement programs it creates the worse we're going to be. California has beat the rest of the country there and the way we're moving we're going to turn into Greece at some point and be in a really bad spot. Gov't is NOT the answer to most of our problems. They just continue to make things worse.

Greece can't just print more Euros.

It is more accurate to compare Greece to California.

Where the US will get into trouble, is that as our debt piles up and the Fed prints and pumps more money into the economy, the dollar could become worthless. Once the other world currencies stabilize, I would begin to worry, if I wasn't already.

I am estatic that another King Obama-loving, nanny state proponent has joined the fray. It seems the others ran off and hid once the public opinion polls for His Holiness, "The One", sunk below the 50% mark. I suspect buyers remorse kicked in for them hard so they made a hasty retreat.

Given that, I wonder why the Founding Fathers didn't write single-payer healthcare into the Constitution. What were they thinking?

Maybe it should have been in the Declaration...Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness by way of the rich guy across town who makes "too much" money, as determined by a bureaucrat with a HS education making $170K per, so he has to subsidize my lifestyle and healthcare as a penalty for his success.

                              Johann,

Your response to me was a perfect example of "your ilk" attempting
to paint someone with a view different than yours as a violent extremist. Don't put words into my mouth and more importantly get over yourself. I'm not interested in harming anyone! My statement was intended to point out that the "in your face", we won the election and know better how to spend your money then you do is starting to anger many. At some point there will be a backlash. I certainly hope it is not violent! Given the radical associations of the left who will do anything to make their power permanent, if violence occurs it will likely be them who start it.

                              What exactly is my ilk?

Family man, business man, Shocker fan, and a person who disagrees with the policies of the jug-eared idiot who is president.
