  • Demorats and Pelosi - "The Slaughter Solution"

Demorats desperate to pass a bill that they know won't pass if they have to give a vote have came up with the "Slaughter Solution"

"House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday.

"Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version.

"Slaughter has not taken the plan to Speaker Pelosi as Democrats await CBO scores on the corrections bill. 'Once the CBO gives us the score, we'll spring right on it,' she said."

    Extraordinary.

The House clearly doesn't trust the Senate or the White House.

The more I think about this the more I keep asking myself: Have these people lost their minds? I guess the town hall meetings last year were too genteel and conciliatory for House Democrats. Trying some sort of stunt like this in order to pass a bill without actually making members vote for it is insanity.

Look I have always suspected that many on the Left have “issues” with the Constitution and all but the idea of working around a requirement that bills be passed by the House strikes a new and disturbing we’ve-lost-democracy vibe with me. To say nothing of how ridiculous this talk makes President Obama’s “the time for talk is over, it’s time to vote” rhetoric sound.

If this is true, I don’t think the House Democrats can attempt to use the "Slaughter Rule". I am glad that someone in Washington apparently understands that it is madness to amend a law that doesn’t exist yet by passing a bill without voting on it.

The Senate Parliamentarian has ruled that President Barack Obama must sign Congress’ original health care reform bill before the Senate can act on a companion reconciliation package, senior GOP sources said Thursday.
