  • Who needs Congress? We have MoveOn.org!

MoveOn.org is threatening Democrat members of Congress if they don't support the healthcare legislation they support:

Several million dollars were raised to coerce Congress to vote on and pass this reform ASAP, before the declining support of the American people declines even further. It worked in the House and now they are targeting Democrats in the Senate.

The MoveOn.org, according to an email sent to their members, has raised $3.5 million dollars to fund challengers in the primary elections against any Democrat senator who helps to block an up-or-down vote on a healthcare bill with a public option. The email also warned any Democrats in the house of representatives against joining the Republicans to filibuster the health care reform bill will "face an enormous backlash from the grassroots".

To go even further, Howard Dean's Democracy for America PAC (reportedly the largest PAC in the U.S.), sent a letter to the Democrats in the Senate urging them to strip any committee chairmanship from "any Democrat who filibusters Health Care".

These two groups hold tremendous influence upon the Democratic members of congress, and it is difficult for any such member to go against them. It will be interesting to see who has more influence, these money men, or the congressmen's constituency...the voters. Those members of congress whose ethics and character is strong, will listen to their voters, and their voters ought to repay them by standing with them, both by voting and by contributing funds to help offset those dollars from the wealthy organizations.
Since MoveOn.org is controlling Congress instead of the American people, why not just disband Congress and let the George Soros-ites write the legislation and pass it onto the President for his immediate signature?

I thought at least one person here could muster some shred of support for MoveOn's blackmail practice which directly contradicts the wishes of the American people. I guess I was wrong.

As you probably have gathered, I am no fan of MoveOn.org (methods, political orientation, etc.); however, this is still the United States of America (well, for now at least ;-)).

I believe they have the right to attempt to influence legislation and to express themselves politically as they see fit.

I agree completely, there have always been various groups vying to swing legislation in their favor. However I don't know if we've ever seen such a large-scale, concerted effort to blackmail lawmakers into disregarding the voice of the voters.

It will be fascinating to see which members of Congress ignore the heat of the August town hall experience and succumb to the cold and direct threat issued by the anti-America George Soros and his front group MoveOn.org here in November and December.

Will they remember their constituents hundreds or thousands or miles away or will they crumble as they sit face-to-face with Harry Reid, Barack Obama, Rahm Emanuel and the MoveOn.org operatives with their multi-million dollar warchest poised to support their opponent in the next primary election?

I need to add Nancy Pelosi to the list above. I flipped over to NPR this morning to check out the lefties and here's what I heard in an interview with Pelosi:
                        (paraphrasing)

NPR: Are there things you can do to convince fellow Democrats to take your side on the healthcare bill now in the Senate?

Pelosi: Yes, there are ways. But I cannot talk about them in public or they wouldn't happen.

(Editorial comment: Yes, Nancy, we've already covered those things in this thread so it's no secret. Nice transparency, by the way)

NPR: What do you think of the President's decision-making process in Afghanistan?

Pelosi: I'm encouraging House members to give the President some space to make his "pronouncement"(her words exactly). I feel there is low support for more troops among Democrats, which is a reflection of their constituents
                        .

(Editorial comment: Are the American people really against sending more troops? Gallup shows it's 44 to 42 with a 4% margin for error)

Back to healthcare in closing comments:

Pelosi: I want to give the healthcare bill as a Christmas present to the American people.

(Editorial comment: Nancy, isn't this like giving a 13-year-old boy pink underwear as a Christmas gift in front of all his friends?)

I positively despise Pelosi, but you can't honestly expect someone to disclose their strategies.

And I'm sure constituencies that send Democrats to congress are decidedly against deploying more troops. National polls are irrelevant in that regard.

But please Nancy, a lump of coal in our stockings would be much more thoughtful.

If only the 13-year-old boy were so lucky. This is more like the entire family waking up and finding the Grinch stole not only Christmas, but every subsequent Christmas until eternity and their home is now located in a wasteland.

Apparently one wavering Senator's price for her vote is $100 million. Nine pages in the bill give one state, Louisana, this benefit. That's a small bribe in this $2.5 trillion ripoff. Feeling guilty Mary Landrieu?
