I know I stand completely alone on this, but instead of not liking any of the candidates, I actually like nearly all of them.

I will easily get behind whichever one is picked in order to get rid of Obama.

Each one has flaws, no doubt, but who doesn't? The good news is each one seems to have most of the agenda in tune with where the country needs to head.

The only problem is can you trust any of them to actually execute? That's why I wish Paul Ryan were in it to win it. I feel that you can trust Paul Ryan, because he's willing to put forth an agenda and fight for it. I just hope the GOP candidates have that chutzpah when they are elected.

Relative to Obama though, pretty much all of the GOP candidates look very, very supportable.

I hope that regardless of which GOP presidential candidate we end up with, the vast majority of house and senate seats go to real conservatives. Then having a not-as-conservative president as you would like would be easy to live with. If we have a majority of real conservatives in the house and senate, this country could be salvaged.

Perry Slides in Two New Polls

Some not-so-encouraging numbers for Texas Gov. Rick Perry in two new polls -- he has taken a drastic fall in the numbers while businessman Herman Cain gobbles up all that lost support.

A Washington Post/ABC News poll out Tuesday shows businessman Herman Cain has tied Perry for second place behind front-runner Mitt Romney. Romney is at 25 percent while Cain and Perry each get 16 percent.

But the trajectory is an indicator of the men's fortunes. The Texas governor has fallen 13 percentage points since the last poll, while Cain has risen 12 in the last month.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will hold a news conference at the Statehouse in Trenton at 1 p.m. ET Tuesday, a late addition to the schedule that has election watchers wondering if he's going to announce his entry into the 2012 Republican presidential race.

Several reports say Christie has been meeting with family members and advisers as many high-profile Republicans urge him to seek the nomination. Christie has been silent in the face of reporters' questions in the last few days.

Cain campaign denies sexual harassment

WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain's campaign denied allegations that emerged Sunday saying he was twice accused of sexual harassment while he was the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s.

In the campaign's most definitive statement today, campaign manager and chief of staff Mark Block said that Cain had never engaged in any sort of sexual harassment, disputing a Politico report that said Cain had been accused of sexually suggestive behavior toward at least two female employees during his time as head of the restaurant lobby.

"Herman Cain has never sexually harassed anybody. Period. End of story," Block said on MSNBC's Daily Rundown.

Exactly 1979 – and being a black conservative doesn’t help either, but I don’t want to come across as complaining about the obvious double standard at play here – it is what it is. The problem is how thin this allegation appears to be.

Several years ago I was engaged in the private practice of law and on occasion worked (as a defense attorney) for corporate clients in sexual harassment cases. When I read Politico’s story I did so with a great deal of skepticism – and I have a good reasons for doing so.

I don’t know the specifics of the case - no one does except the actual participants – and I don’t know if it is somehow relevant to Cain’s character. Part of the reason, besides the lack of first hand knowledge is the fact that a settlement was reached means absolutely nothing.

The story itself is unilluminating, to say the least. From it, we can discern that complaints were made, settlements were reached, and small sums of money changed hands. That’s it. We don’t even know the nature of the complaints, aside from vague comments about “innuendos” and “propositions.” And it’s possible we’ll never know. If the settlement agreements were crafted according to common practice, the confidentiality provisions are mutual. Neither party will be able to discuss the details without violating the settlement. So we may very well stay in the dark, and we’ll be left reading tea leaves, and in sexual harassment cases that is a dangerous thing to do.

First, as we all know, the existence of a complaint is not proof of guilt. Any seasoned employment litigator can tell tales of horrific misconduct, utterly fabricated complaints, and a huge amount of conduct that falls somewhere in between.

Second, the existence of a confidential settlement agreement tells us nothing. The vast majority of sexual harassment complaints are settled behind closed doors, and - because the of the scandalous nature of the claims - confidentiality is vital even when the defendant is innocent. Simply put, the mere existence of a complaint can damage if not destroy a person’s reputation.

Finally, even the payment itself tells us very little and what it does tell us actually favors Cain. Small “five-figure” settlements (the amount Politico says is at issue here) are paid for multiple reasons - as part of a pure cost/benefit analysis to avoid litigation expenses (the classic nuisance settlement), to buy silence and relief from false claims, to provide legitimate compensation to aggrieved employees, or to dispose of claims of unknown veracity simply because the parties want to “move on” (to name a few examples). In any event, the fact that we are talking “five figures”, according to the story, leads me to believe that the complaints had little or no merit. What can constitute sexual harassment has become so broad (as anyone who has gone through mandatory sensitivity training at their job can attest to) so if these matters had legs no plaintiffs counsel on earth would settle for less than $100K.

Unless I hear more, I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt despite the fact I don’t think he responded well to this allegation – at least initially.

Can you provide a link in which it is asserted that one of the women involved was paid in cash – you know a small briefcase full of greenbacks (I assume that is what you mean)? I have reviewed a couple articles and it seems they are using "cash settlement” loosely.
