Dissent all you want if you torture and use the laws to justify it you are doing the same thing as the Nazis did.

If you can’t distinguish between what the Nazis, for example, did during WWII (to POWs and civilians alike) and what the CIA did recently then we are going to have difficulty.

That being said, you don’t appear to have any desire to seriously discuss this issue.

      • Torture is torture it doesnt matter what uniform you wear. No need to discuss let the chips fall as they may.

          Not good enough.

How do you define "torture"? It has become quite the loaded word, right? You don’t seem to want to tell anyone your definition.

Is it any pain or discomfort imposed on a prisoner? If not, what is acceptable and in what circumstances? Is the pain or discomfort a human being feels when he is imprisoned – “torture”? What about handcuffing a prisoner? What about raising your voice to a prisoner? I could go on and on.

You see the discussion is really about where to draw the line. As I have stated, on numerous occasions, a perfectly acceptable argument can be made that any pain or discomfort inflicted on a prisoner is inherently evil and, therefore, should not be done under any circumstances. However, those that take such a principled stand (one I think should be respected) need to also accept the consequences of the purity of their position in the real world.

If you actually took the time to read the so called “Torture Memos”, what you will find are individuals seeking to establish where the line should be, under the circumstances. You may disagree where that line was drawn and that is fine. But to be taken seriously, you have to articulate why you disagree and what you would have done differently.

In my opinion there are three aspects to this issue: (1) The legal; (2) the Political; and (3) the Moral. The Moral being the most important. This is not an easy issue and how our country decides to proceed could, and probably will, have very real consequences (that word, again) in the real world.

Why suddenly, in your judgment, is there no need to discuss this issue? It seems pretty important to me.

          • KC, Thanks for the welcome back, I have been extremely busy trying to earn enough $$ to pay my escalating tax bill. (treading water)

In case you are curious I'm fairly certain of how and where to aim. For the other old soldiers out there....how's this? "Aim center mass and squeeze the trigger, cheek to stockwell, nose to charging handle!"

Just in case you were wondering...I have quite a resume'. Lucky we don't have any terrorist and/or terrorist apologist lurking about. ;-)

            • Mancow Muller previously of Chicago's Big 89, WLS-AM Mancow & Cassidy show, gets waterboarded to see what it's like and shares it with listeners and viewers.

Conserative talk show host Mancow convinced its torture. Hint he lasts 6 secs on what is considered not even the full treatment.

              Watch if you dare! 8)

              • Here's waterboarding that Christopher Hitchens had done on him.

Last February, Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter asked writer Christopher Hitchens if he would be willing to subject himself to the form of torture ...

Yes. And you, yet again, ignore any substantive discussion of the issue and instead rely on someone who refers to himself as Mancow….

                        • Does he have any long term problems now that he's been waterboarded? Again, temporary discomfort with no long term effects is not torture.

                          • I don't think you can have a substantive discussion involving anyone named Mancow, kcshocker11 and long term problems.
