I wonder if there is a difference between 19th century slave owners and combatants against the United States.

Unbelievable. So much wrong with this. What was the norm 1,000 years ago was not the norm 500 years ago, just like what was the norm 250 years ago is not today. One can hope that mankind learns from past mistakes, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It is a process and not just a wave of the hand.

Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Originally posted by MoValley John View PostThe buttons are fake. No union bug, not hard to figure out. However, the Obama quote onsaid button is 100% legit. Look it up. You must blindly, and forcefully condemn.
Throughout the first year of this campaign, against all predictions to the contrary, we saw how hungry the American people were for this message of unity. Despite the temptation to view my candidacy through a purely racial lens, we won commanding victories in states with some of the whitest populations in the country. In South Carolina, where the Confederate Flag still flies, we built a powerful coalition of African Americans and white Americans.
This is not to say that race has not been an issue in the campaign. At various stages in the campaign, some commentators have deemed me either "too black" or "not black enough." We saw racial tensions bubble to the surface during the week before the South Carolina primary. The press has scoured every exit poll for the latest evidence of racial polarization, not just in terms of white and black, but black and brown as well.

Ignoring the mistakes and failings of someone is different than celebrating their triumphs and accomplishments. I feel like some people are choosing to concentrate on the negative at the expense of the positive. Some are choosing to be the one who throws the first stone at Lee, Davis, Jefferson, or whoever.
With that said, I still don't care what the south does with their statues. Their decision. But as far as our national figures--such as Washington or Jefferson--and their national monuments, we're going to have to have a much stronger case for removal to convince me we can't memorialize the good they did with full understanding of knowledge of their failings."It's amazing to watch Ron slide into that open area, Fred will find him and it's straight cash homie."--HCGM
