The argument will always be, what constitutes "dignity" and how much will that dignity cost.

No matter how logical and simple the proposed solution is, someone will find a way to argue in favor of significant federal involvement to make things "fair".

That's true @RoyalShock. Everyone will have an opinion on what the "right" amount of assistance is. I guess I'd like to see the "you are an idiot" commentary reserved for the extremes (advocates of $75k+/yr, or advocates of zero assistance to anyone) and little more allowance for differing opinions within the middle of the spectrum. Unlike say, elective late-term abortion, this should be an issue where decent people can acknowledge that there isn't an easy, obvious, "right" answer.
