The more I investigate Evan McMullin (here is his platform) and the more I listen to him speak and give interviews the more I like him.
McMullin and Gary Johnson are pretty similar on the majority of issues. McMullin seems somewhat more hawkish on foreign policy than Johnson, although Johsnon does not seem to be a total isolationist as some have attempted to portray him. Where they break ranks is on the social issues where McMullin is more conservative and Johnson more liberal. Social issues typically are not make or break issues for me. However, both acknowledge the importance of the constitution and both are interested in devolving power back to the states in accordance with the 10th amendment.
I think both McMullin and Johnson are light years ahead of Clinton and Trump when it comes to character and transparency. Neither McMullin nor Johnson would seem to be beholding to special interests, especiallly foreign interests, as would Clinton through her and Bill's exceedingly corrupt Foundation/State Department influence peddling pay-to-play schemes nor Trump's seemingly deep financial ties with Russia.
McMullin does come across publicly as much more "presidential" then Johnson and is much more elequent and clear in stating his case on the public stage and with the media.
I have also be somewhat put off by Bill Weld's pivot to focus on attacking and preventing Trump from being elected instead of focusing on the Libertarian ticket. On the ohter hand he rarely has any criticism of Hilary Clinton. In fact, he has publicly called her the most qualified of the candidates running this year although he later said that doesn't mean he agrees with her policies. But it seems to me that Weld has thrown in the towel as far as promoting the Libertarian platform and has a definite affinity for Clinton over Trump. It seems like his primary goal at this point is to harm Trump and he reallly doesn't care if any votes he can pull from Trump go to Johnson, McMulllin or Clinton. I wonder if that hasn't caused some friction with Johnson and within the Libertarian Party. Supporting Hillary Clinton does not seem to be a very Libertarian thing to do.
At this point I would rank my choices in Kansas (excluding Tom Hoefling of America's Party who I have not looked at) as follows:
1. Evan McMullin
2. Gary Johnson
3. Donald Trump
4. Jill Stein
5. Hillary Clinton
If I was in a state where I thought my vote might influence the outcome I would probably have to hold my nose and vote for Donald Trump and then hope and pray he picks quality people to actually run the exexctuve branch.
Hillary Clinton is simply not an option I can consider.Last edited by 1972Shocker; October 28, 2016, 03:16 PM.
