9 Cubans made it to Key West yesterday. As usual they were greeted with much need food, water and also cigarettes by locals. I've never heard of anybody being upset with similar landings over the last couple of decades.
    In the fast lane

I have never liked this policy. It has created a rift in the Latin American community. Let's say you're from Venezuela. Let's also say you're starving to death because there is no food (this is no joke there are food riots practically every day). Even though Venezuela enjoys good relations with Cuba, if a Venezuelan tried to fly to Cuba and take a raft into the United States, they would be apprehended by ICE and sent back home.

Venezuela's government is oppressive, their citizens should be considered for political asylum, but yet we can't let anyone in from Venezuela because of where they are from (i.e. not Cuba). Venezuelans, like many other countries in Latin America must patiently wait in line (sometimes for years and years - my girlfriend's brother, who is a gastrointernologist, and his wife, who is a pathologist, had to wait for over 6 years).

Cubans come over in a raft and get in without any questions. Then their politicians like Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz stab the entire latino community in the back by getting out on the stump and parroting the 'send them back' mantra.

Either we send EVERYONE back or we don't. Time for this double standard to end.

Without the boat people we never would have had Scarface. I say let 'em come and give De Niro another great role.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I think it's great that you live in Key West and have a whole different set of issues/expectations with the government. If only there were some mechanism for governing coastal states differently than inland states.
