  • Iran captures 10 U.S. Navy Sailor Right Before State of Union

10 U.S. sailors taken into custody by Iran (9 men, 1 women).

Full fog of war with the Obama administration saying alot of "I thinks" and claiming that they will be released "Promptly". Not sure if that is their wish or will happen. Obama administration is floating the story that one of the boats broke down - seems to be trying to give Iran a face saving measure, but stuff doesn't add up when:

US. Secretary of State John Kerry telephoned counterparts in Tehran, convinced the Iranians that the ships' movement was an accident and was not an intentional violation of Iran's territorial waters - @NBCNews
Iran's revolutionary guard says France's aircraft carrier Charles De Gaulle was near seized US Navy boats - @Reuters
But it is interesting that it happens right before the state of the union, especially since Iran is not happy because there is a bill that doesn't allow full sanction relief that Iran wants. Iran is talking about reconsidering the implementation of the agreement.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency said: "The Revolutionary Guards naval forces seized the American boats two kilometers inside Iranian territorial waters while they were snooping around.

It was the latest reported incident between U.S. and Iranian forces in the Gulf in recent weeks.

Doesn't seem that it was a mechanical problem unless the Iranian mechanics fixed their issue.

The Iran Revolutionary Guard’s naval chief said earlier Wednesday that Iran’s foreign minister had demanded an apology from the U.S. for entering Iranian waters.Gen. Ali Fadavi also told state TV Wednesday that the American boats showed "unprofessional acts" for 40 minutes before being picked up by Iranian forces.

"Certainly U.S. presence in Persian Gulf and their passage has never been innocent and we do not deem their passage as innocent," Fadavi said, adding that Iran Foreign Minister Javad Zarif "had a firm stance (during a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry) on their presence in our territorial waters and said they should not have come and should apologize."

13 miles roughly before international waters, the sailors were roughly a mile inside the 13 mile no go zone, seems a little improbable that they didn't know they were an entire mile inside Iranian territorial waters.

If this would of happened before last Summer I imagine they would stay in Iranian custody for much, much longer.

Well when $100 billion of assets are at risk....., I guess it not enough though to release the otherr four hostage that Iran hold:

Jason Rezaian - Wash Post journalist
                Robert Levinson
Saeed Abedini - Pastor who was constructing orphanages in Iran
Amir Hekmati - Marine veteran visiting his family in Iran (initially sentenced to death, but was retried and sentenced to 10 years)

There is reports in Iranian media that 4 Americans are to be released in a prisoner swap of 6 iranians. If this happens kudos to Obama administration for getting these guys back. Three of the 4 are listed above (Rezaian, Abedini, Hekmati).
