Carson's assertion that "the Chinese are there" in Syria concerns me from a Presidential candidate. The idea that the Chinese are going to send military forces to China seems absurd to me, and counter-intuitive to anyone with even a basic grasp of Chinese history, naval strength, etc. China is not Russia, and they are hardly going to double-down on a relationship with Russia (who they don't particularly trust or like) by joining in on that.
I'm sure they will do whatever they can to make money off of the conflict, however.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

I wonder how many people who cheered Fiorina having a private meeting with Putin compared to Trump's green room meeting will bother fact checking? The difference was Trump met him in a green room while waiting for a TV show. Fiorina met him in a green room waiting to give a speech at a conference. Sheesh. In the fast lane

That was quickly denied by China and there has been no more news on the topic.
This is another subject Carson and his staff has had to go back and explain his original statement. Yesterday Carson said, "China has been trying to extend it's influence not only throughout the Middle East but throughout Africa and in several locations. And their interest extend into that region as well. I would have to refer you to some other people to get you the actual data. But they've shown it to me." Who those "some other people" are was not given in the article. Read the article for more from Armstrong Williams.
I'm not going to put much weight on their unnamed sources.

If Carson was acknowledging that he was misstaken by an inaccurate story, awesome, end of story for me. However, I do not like that Carson's campaign doubled-down on this rather than just admitting that his quick statement was based on erroneous reporting:
"From our own intelligence and what Dr. Carson's been told by people who are on the ground who are involved in that region of the world, it has been told to him may times over and over, that the Chinese are there,” he said on MSNBC.
It is not only not true, it is absurd to even speculate on. A Presidential candidate should know better. He is not being told any such thing by people in that region of the world, unless they're blatantly trying to humiliate him.Last edited by Rlh04d; November 12, 2015, 08:37 PM.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

There are very few stories you should believe that include such wonderful turns of phrase as "to get in on some of the action of humiliating the U.S." "filling Obama's power vacuum," "China's entry means two major powers are stepping in to do what the U.S. was unwilling to do against IS," and so on. It's an editorial masquerading as a news article.

I have a friend who now lives in Ethiopia. I can personally vouch for her honesty having known her through college. She went through the nursing program at WSU and has worked in hospitals in multiple African countries.
Recently she was back in the states for a visit. My wife and I hosted her and her husband (an African native) for a meal. We discussed all sorts of topics related to the local culture, regional stability, etc. I have to admit that I had never heard anything about connections between China and Africa until she mentioned the horrible things China is doing all across Africa and the Middle East. They are taking advantage of wide spread corruption throughout these various governments for financial gain and political influence.
One specific story. Many Chinese criminals are offered a choice. Prison in China, or get shipped to Ethiopia to work construction on projects of Chinese influence. Hospitals have been built by these folks, and the end result is a very poorly built hospital of little benefit to the people of Ethiopia, but the Ethiopian government gets to pretend that it is building infrastructure for its people, and the Chinese get paid handsomely for virtual "slave labor" all the while reducing their prison expenditures within China. She said this was not rumor, but well known fact to those living in that country. I can only imagine how many different types of shady deals China does with corrupt governments throughout the region.
I admit that I do not know much about this issue beyond what my friend told me. I have not researched Carson’s comments specifically, and I still consider myself fairly naïve about the whole issue. However, I simply wanted to share this story for those who might think there is no evidence of Chinese involvement in Africa or the Middle East. I do not have all the information, but I believe my friend when she says that this is a significant problem, and that it is very real.
