I don't have much respect for politicians who sell you one thing and once you've bought it, stick you with the inferior grade-b product. See Ted Cruz. Voted for him once, but after the government shutdown, never again.

As for Biden, if you don't think Obama's the sharpest tool in the box.........and Biden has a horrible case of oral diarrhea, too.

I dunno. I see how a Repub can run as an independent and fool some Dems into voting for him/her, but I don't see that working vice-versa in Kansas. The elderly voters that dominate the midterm elections are pretty savvy and I would think it's a long shot to pull one over on the conservative ones. Maybe tonight I will learn better. Or perhaps there will be a demographic shift for this midterm and it won't be dominated by elderly voters? Or maybe the elderly voters in Kansas are no longer very conservative? Dunno.

If you're a smart liberal in Kansas you run as a Republican and claim your primary opponent is an extremist.

You have a much better chance of getting elected than running as a "Moderate" Democrat in the general.

You don't think all those "Republicans" for Davis are for Life and Lower Taxes do you?

We have a couple of Democrats running as Independents in Nebraska right now. We also have a Democrat running for the US House, that started his political career as a liberal Republican. When he couldn't sell that, he became an Independent. And when nobody bought that anymore, he finally became Democrat. You will rarely, if ever, see party affiliation in his campaigns. But... He is trying to hide his liberal ideology in a conservative state. He has had varying success over the years.

I've seen the "Independent" smokescreen used in Illinois, California, Iowa, Nebraska and Maryland. It usually goes the same way, trying to mask your ideology where your ideology is in the minority. I've seen Democrats do it in Republican states, and Republicans do it in Democrat states.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

As a political strategy, we should just call it the Independent Gambit. When this candidate first filed to run, the news media should have led with the following headline:

Orm Throws His Hat in the Ring. Plays the Independent Gambit Right Out of the Gate.

Thank God I won't have to look at bobble head Greg Orman for the next 6 years, it nearly made me crazy over the last couple months.

Did people actually believe Orman was an "independent"? I've always assumed exactly what MVJ said about them being a minority party guy.

I hated casting a pragmatic vote for Roberts last night. Damn you, Harry Reid.

Didn't think he would win. He'd have had far more luck running as a Republican. Campaigning as anything else opened up the "Orman is literally Obama" campaigns that are tremendously effective in Kansas or any red state. People in Kansas hate liberals, Obama, and Democrats, even when they agree with some of their policies. If you want to push those policies, run as a moderate Republican and play the smart game.

Orman refused to answer the tough questions on issues. Why is it so hard to understand that a non-answer basically infers a confirmation of the question?

I'm really no fan of Roberts; He seems like a curmudgeon, has made essentially a life-long and well-compensated career out of "serving the public," should have long since retired, and has a family that probably looks at Kansas as "that flyover state that dad/grandpa came from before the gravy train came along," but for whatever reason no conservative/libertarian alternative was otherwise available or competitive. A candidate who won't define his position is not really a candidate at all.

Besides, if Orman suddenly relocated to the Wichita area, his business style means he would instantly hit it off with the Steven, Farha, or _______ (insert favorite Wichita Lebanese mafia) family, and that's not a compliment in the slightest. Guy sounds like a dirtbag.

I think you should be careful lumping all the Lebanese families into a single negative stereotype. It may be true that there are a couple bad eggs among one or more of the families (that can be said of nearly any family regardless of race/country of origin/etc), but there are some seriously outstanding and charitable businessmen with integrity among them too.

I agree. Stereotyping is not cool.
