  • National Security Threat to Wichita Averted

    News at 1pm

Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams says a 1 p.m. news conference Friday will address “a major situation for our city that was averted” through a collaborative investigation.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom and Michael Kaste, special agent in charge of the FBI office in Kansas City, will appear at the news conference in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Wichita to announce charges against a person arrested Friday morning “in a case involving a national security matter,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said Friday morning in statement.
Gov. Sam Brownback also is scheduled to be at the news conference, his office said.

Yawn. Much ado for attention. It is all somewhat watered down.

Is this related to the threat on the water supply in Wichita?

That what I'm figuring also. Shouild be some good jokes come out of it.

The whole things just some so high schoolish -I mean what is a "major situation". Why not just tell us what it was and that there is going to be a news conference at 1pm with further details - unless they were afraid that nobody would show up if they knew what the story is.

My guess is KU believes WSU rise to power is a threat to National Security and we are going to find out what steps they are taking .....has anybody seen HCGM? Has he been arrested and taken to a Gulag in NE KS?

"Today with hard work from our friends at the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Kansas State Highway Patrol, and Wichita Police Department; we were able to avert a national security threat when it was uncovered that three high school aged conspirators were found to be conspiring to deface a national landmark and treasure, the largest electric shovel still in existence, Big Brutus. While they did not intend to actually deface the machine itself, we were able to confiscate computer equipment, Internet records, health records, driver's license records, dental records, bank records, credit card history, baptism certificates, and most importantly text messaging communications via mobile phone that showed they were about to deface the signage along the highway with phallic symbols.

Thank you, we will be taking questions at this time."

Looks like it was a planned suicide bombing at the Wichita airport.

If this person had the means to carry it out - could have been a serious thing.

                    FBI provided fake explosives.

                        Dirka-Dirka, Muhammad Jihad!

Just glad it wasn't an international student from WSU. That would have been a sweet trifecta to go with our connections with the 1993 WTC, and BTK.

Well, actually, if it was the international student that somehow occasionally acquires the ticket for the seat next to my wife at Koch, that would have been okay with me. He shares his au natural aroma with everyone in the section.

The suspect, Terry Lee Loewen, an avionics technician who lives in Wichita, was arrested earlier in the day as he attempted to use his security pass to drive a vehicle that he thought contained explosives onto the tarmac at the airport, law enforcement officials said at a news conference in Wichita. In fact, the car contained only dummy explosives.

After reading through the complaint, this guy definitely had the desire to this, but other than doing some rudimentary surveillance, purchasing some hardware and performing the wiring of the "detonator", he was led through the whole operation by FBI agents.

Dudes like that scare me, but I don't think he could have come anywhere close to pulling this off on his own. He wasn't currently capable of being more than just a useful idiot. Not to say that given enough time he couldn't have developed into more than that.
