  • NSA spying revelations grow

The United States is scrambling to soothe some of its closest allies, angered as one report after another details vast American spying — including gathering data on tens of millions of phone calls in Spain a single month.

The latest report, published Monday in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, said that the National Security Agency had collected information on 60 million calls in that country last December.

It followed reports in the last week that the United States spied on leaders of at least 35 countries, and even bugged the personal cellphone of German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

German intelligence chiefs are preparing to visit Washington this week to demand answers, and the German Parliament on Monday called a special session for Nov. 18 to talk about NSA spying.
Does anyone know how long this has been going on? Since the Patroit Act? Since the 'Cold War'? Since we became a nation?

For some reason, I'm not bothered one bit when I hear that we're engaged in espionage on foreign soil. It's always happened and always will. I'm not sure what to think about such deep spying on our allies, though.

Well when a half-muslim communist gets elected as president it doesn't work out too well for them or us. Sucks to be Israel, no?

Sergeant Hans Schultz defense: "I know nuusssink."

          I love this:
. . . the White House ordered a halt to some eavesdropping on foreign leaders after learning of it this summer.
          Emphasis mine.

          What a joke.

Don't you it really common knowledge we try to spy on them and them on us? I think they all know it, just nobody talked about it, but with WIKILEAKS and Snowden affairs the 500 lb. gorilla is now roaming freely.

My gut feeling what the allies are really pissed out is that their countrymen are about to find out is how much cooperation there has been between different governments and the NSA (which in some cases probably breaks their laws).

I don't know if I should check my sarcasm meter or if you really believe that.

For @1979Shocker:, maybe this is the first time in history of the Internet a poster responded with this meme to his own post:

                    That was epic.

Two part question: If the President knows nothing about 35 world leaders being spied on, then why are we gathering that information and who is acting on it?

Soooooo ... the US Government is collecting and hoarding information on all of us private citizens without warrants, and 3rd party groups are stealing that hoarded information as we speak. And Obama said,
The federal government does a lot of things really well. One of those things it does not do well is information technology procurement.
Which obviously includes security software/hardware to protect citizens from the security breaches of our private information that is unethically being gathered and hoarded by the federal government.

Stay out of my life federal government and stop gathering and storing information on me. No health care records, no Google searches, no Shockernet postings, no credit card purchases, no travel records, no phone records (including mobile tower data). Get out. Just get out.
