We find out about noon our time today. Whistle-blower or traitor?

After spending three years in custody, the man accused of the largest leak of classified information in U.S. history will learn Tuesday whether he has been found guilty of aiding the enemy.

A verdict from the judge in the court-martial of Pfc. Bradley Manning will be announced at 1 p.m. ET Tuesday, according to a spokeswoman for the military district of Washington.

If found guilty on the aiding the enemy charge, Manning could be sentenced to life in prison. He has pleaded guilty to nearly a dozen lesser charges that carry a sentence of up to 20 years behind bars.

Whether Manning is a whistle-blower or a traitor who betrayed his country has been hotly debated.

Manning was convicted of five espionage counts, five theft charges, a computer fraud charge and other military infractions. His sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

The 25-year-old Crescent, Okla., native acknowledged giving the anti-secrecy website hundreds of thousands of battlefield reports, diplomatic cables and videos in early 2010.

A little of both perhaps? I believe I read on CNN that the stuff that he'd already pled guilty to got him 20 years. I suppose tomorrow morning we find out how many more years get tacked onto that.

He was found guilty of 5 counts of espionage - that makes him a traitor and he faces up to a maximum of greater 100 years in prison.

I just skimmed the verdict aspect. Espionage = traitor. So traitor it is.

This guy had major psychological problems.

He should NEVER have been granted any type of security clearance to begin with.

Have we done away with all reasonable controls in this country?

There are legal ways to be a whistle blower. I'd find the "whistle blower" argument more acceptable if these people tried any legal method of whistle blowing before they went immediately to treason.

If your first instinct is treason, you aren't a whistle blower. If your concerns have been repeatedly dismissed through all legal channels and you feel that you have no other recourse ... then maybe you have a case.
