Obviously I'm talking about the Department of Government Efficiency. They don't actually wield a lot of power to enforce things, but they can shine a light and move things in the right direction. It appears they're off to a respectable start and they've only just begun. Below are some highlights for me.
I remember even back in high school wondering about how they justify so much waste and spending money in places they have no business spending money in. You'd often hear arguments about in the grand scheme of things, it's not that much compared to the whole. That was the justification, even though all of that crap adds up and you're seeing some of that here with the above. And DOGE is just scratching the surface right now. They've only officially been a government department for about 10 days and have cut billions of dollars in unnecessary and useless spending.
I'm really interested to see how this continues and when we'll see more push back from politicians about what is going on. I know some of these things are easier for them to do as they have Trump appointed leaders over a number of agencies who will sign off on these cuts, but at some point we'll get into what Congress is doing and won't have the same ease of cutting some of these things. That will be an interesting day. But as I've also stated before, shining a light on things so the public can see what's going on and then making politicians defend the funding/spending in certain areas will be interesting. And I have to wonder if voters will actually hold some of those politicians accountable.
